I live in your area and have found the "good" vocal coaches won't take children under 12 (6th grade) because they believe it is too easy for a younger child to damage their voice by pushing it too far too early. My DD was in Sound of Music at dinner theatre and the music/vocal director was wonderful and complementary, but wouldn't take my daughter on as a student because she was only 10! It seems to me that it would be SAFER for a child to have professional instruction so as NOT to damage her voice. Let me know if you find anyone willing to take your 9 y.o. Best of luck.

Thanks, Daughter's Dreams! I'll let you know. It seems that most people live in NJ, CT and NYC.

Hello Sunflower and Daughter's Dreams. I'm also in the MD/DC area and would love to receive any information you may have found about a voice and acting coach.

I just joined the forum. My daughter is 15 and we need a voice coach/teacher for her ASAP. Since she is of the age I hope you can help. We are in Baltimore, Maryland.
Thank you.

PS: Can someone please tell me the difference between voice coach and voice teacher? Just something I picked up on the board.

I am an Acting Coach in your area. If there are enough folks in the Baltimore area that would like to join forces, I could give an Children's Acting Class in your area.

I have been a drama teacher for 13 years. I have held a Summer Musical Theater Camp for Kids of All Abilities since 1996.

I was a child actress on Broadway (replacing the original Amaryllis, Marilyn Seigal, in THE MUSIC MAN at the Majestic Theater) and Road Tours until I was 10. After that I worked at Disney World as a tap dancer, while dancing with several ballet companies in the south. Now I run the summer theater camp, and I also am the artistic director of a professional theater company.

Our mission statement is all about education and giving young folks a "foot-in-the-door" of professional theater so they have something to write on their resumes.

Feel free to email me, and if we can get 5 or more kids together, we can find a central location in Baltimore to hold a class. Also, feel free to contact me for any questions.
