Renewal or new permit? I just did our renewal and it took about a week, maybe less.

I did my son's renewal in September and it took exactly one week from the day I mailed it to the day I got it back. I was impressed!

Got it! Just had to give it one more day. You know how it goes you have to get yourself all worried for nothing. Keep trying to go with the motto: Everything always works out and usually does!

Mailed one out this Monday afternoon and it came today. They are really great about getting the permits out.

Hi. Very new to all of this, and in the last month my dd has landed three student films which shoot before the end of november. I submitted for a six month permit early last week. She just booked a commercial which shoots tomorrow, Sunday. Haven't gotten the permit back but I know that it is in process. Thought I would not have a problem printing the temporary 15 day as never applied in past. When I went to print out the 15 day temporary, it is saying the the social security number has already been used. My guess is that the number has a hold on it because of the six month process. What do I do? I won't have a permit in hand for tomorrow. I have all the paperwork. New to this and would love advice. Trying to do the right thing. Thank you so much.

Hi

You're definitely in a tough spot right now and I'm not even sure how to answer.

They are pretty quick in the DOL, so they may have, already, put through the informination in their system and the 15 day work permit is for first time applicants - both were done too close to one another.

How did she book the commercial? Self-submit? Agent?

Do you have any contacts for production perhaps to call them and alert them of the problem rather than showing up without the work permit because there really nothing that can be done over the weekend. Perhaps if they at least know that you applied for the work permit and the system acknowledged that the DOL received your child's information and you have your trust fund info (bring that with you and all the paperwork, copy of the form the school signed) you might be fine and you can call the DOL early a.m. Monday. Even print out the page where it states that they already have the SS# in the system.

Best to at least have this acknowledged beforehand if you can.

In the future, right now, marked down on the calendar at least 30 days before the next one is due so you never overlap with your renewals. I know they are pretty quick in Albany and they ARE doing a great job, but try to renew at least 3 weeks before the due date. If the renewal happens to be within the summer months, it's okay for the school to sign off on the form in June right before school ends cos it will be based on the last quarter's grades.

It may also get crazy out there and I will promise to post any info I have. We have NJ, Connecticut and Massachusetts all with child performer bills on table and it can get wickedly crazy for everyone in the future if we have to try and keep up with 4 or 5 different work permits, all with different work permits/trust funds and regulations! Everyone's heads will be spinning!

Wish I could help more!! good luck and congrats on the bookings.

Thank you so much for your help. I contacted the production folks and explained. They are willing to work with us. I will follow up on Monday first thing and ask DOL about the overlap of filing for both types of permits. If it helps anyone else, perhaps even if they say, "if this is your first time filing for a permit, you should file for the temporary prior to the six month mail in application". As an avid reader of your information I am really appreciative of your advice. Thank you for all you do.

My pleasure and thanks for the kind words.

Production is used to last minute changes and you pretty much had the documentation that the DOL had begun the process of putting the info into their system so better at least to be professional and alert them beforehand if there was going to be an issue instead of the morning of the shoot!

Hope it was fun today!! Happy bookings for the future!
