Somehow I cannot think of any suitable Broadway songs for a 7-9 years old girls. I mean, you for sure don't want it to be yet another "Annie" song, but that's definitely is the first option that's coming to mind. I know you will be able to help... What in your opinion are the best choices?

Castle on a Cloud from Les Mis
Let Me Entertain You from Gypsy
I've got Me from Annie Warbucks (hard to get sheet music to-message me if u really want it)
My sister has also occasionally sung a verse of
"Some things are meant to be" from Little Women. That is actually a duet and not really a kid song, but it works.

I think you already know this but DONT SING ANNIE. WAY too overdone. Directors will cringe.I would say also avoid singing Do re mi from Sound of Music or My Favorite Things. little too overdone.

You may get some suggestions here, but I'll be honest in telling you that you are asking for a lot - because you're right, there are not many songs for young kids.

An audition song (or monologue) is a pretty personal thing. The kids, their parents, voice teachers and vocal coaches put a lot of effort into finding the 'right' song for auditions. It's actually considered impolite to ask another child what they'll be singing at an audition.

Your child's voice teacher is the best place to start. If your child doesn't have a voice teacher, they shouldn't be singing Broadway songs. These songs are (for the most part) very vocally demanding and kids voices are fragile instruments.

There is a series of books by Hal Leonard with Broadway songs for kids. They're a good place to start. There are famous composers (Schwartz etc.) who have written children's musicals that for whatever reason never became popular - but have great music. Check YouTube. Kids often post videos of themselves singing.

This is one of those areas where research pays off. You want your child going in with something interesting to offer, in addition to their kick butt talent.

At an audition, Yes.

Another suggestion is "Freedom" from Shenandoah. It's not done that often and can be sung as a solo, even though it's a duet, and is appropriate for both girls and boys.

Uggg, I am sorry, I didn't realize that my question was impolite, I didn't think about it in that way. I guess this is a common mistake most of the newbies do, - asking every question they have, without giving it much thought. somuchtodo I definitely didn't mean to offend anyone.

I think you want to find the song that is right for YOUR DD, and you probably won't find it on a message board because when you have the perfect song(s) - you won't want everyone else to have it/them!

Asking questions is how we all learn. And through asking, we all learn what not to ask at inappropriate times, like at auditions. But, this was not an inappropriate question and on a message board, anything is possible.

Again, read my previous post. There are only so many songs out there for an 8-10 year old. There is nothing secretive about what songs are and are not appropriate for a young girl. I don't appreciate your judgement of me and my choices or what my mother or anyone else will think about them. My mother has essentially no knowledge of music related things and is only involved in the work my sister and I do to the extent required to keep us safe and healthy. Most everything else I do, from submissions, to preparing for auditions, most of the transportation, etc. At 18 I am perfectly capable of judging what is and isnt appropriate to share to help others. Please, keep your judgement to yourself.

One song my dd sang at that age was Happiness from You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. Another was Edelweiss. But really it's anything that she enjoys, is age appropriate and above all sings well.

Parents of children with real talent would not feel threatned by others knowing what songs they sing. JMO
