Carson/Adler are an agency, and Shirley Grant is a manager. You can search for the differences between having an Agent and/or manager, on this board. HTH

I have spoken to quite a few people who are with SG and for some reason, although you should be able to, SG does not let you or asks you not to, also have an agent. I am aware you should be able to have an agent and a manager but I have been told she requests that you do not.

Thats odd. Most managers dont want you to sign with an agent for commercial because they prefer to send you out through all the agents. Hence, more work and opportunity. But almost all managers are thrilled to get their kids signed for film and television.

Also as a rule Nancy Carson does not work with managers. Most other agents do however.

SG sends kids out for TV, VO's, Prints..etc...etc..she does it all which is why she does not want you to sign with an agent as well. My daughter has been on MANY go sees and auditions for all the above and I see MANY of SG's kids sign in under her name. I personally know one of her clients who does TV. If you decide to have both manager and agent, they both take a % of your pay...not sure if you want to do that???

Rabbs,

I'm sorry, but your post makes no sense to me. All the folks I know who have managers are told to sign in at auditions through whichever agent they got the appointment through. Agents, not managers, get the audition slots. Maybe someone who's with SG can explain, but, from everything I have learned, if you have only one representative it should be an agent, not a manager, as only agents can procure work and negotiate contracts.

As for the original question; do a search of this board and you will see many posts on Shirley Grant.

Not necessarily with regard with signing in under an agency name--dd has a mgr only (not SG!) and often is sent under the mgr's name only.

Most auditions for v/o, commercial, print, tv, etc. are through an agent via SG. There are projects that you are sent on where SG acts as the agent such as Broadway and and film.

I shouldve detailed my post a little more. Of course SG, like actorsmommy and rabbs have said, would rather send you out on more auds thru all different agents then being singled out to only one. SG works with every single big named agent in the city. It would be a personal choice for you whether youd want to sign with SG or Carson adler.

Many Managers do have relationships with casting directors and can get audition slots on their own and Shirley Grant is indeed one of those managers. But her ability there is limited. The majority of SG's work comes from the agents with whom she has terrific relationships. You may get the occassional film and television audition through an excellent manager but you would be missing more than you would be getting by not having an agent representing your interests for film and television.

SG has great relationships and a solid network therefore she can do what MOST managers cannot. That is why she is VERY particular on her selsection of talent. As stated earlier, "I" have seen her talent listed @ auditions with SG's names written in under mgr slot (as I, like most parents glance at the list upon sign in). I have also spoken with the parents represented by her on auditions as I usually speak to a lot of people when there is sooo much wait time. I ditto Actorsmommy's comments.
If you don't have an agent or a manager, you should submit to both and see who offers an interview because it is not easy to secure either without a lot of footwork.
