I have been debating whether or not to go to acting school. I realize that it can't hurt, but I also don't think I could afford it (or get a loan).
The reason I ask is because that I've mostly done theatre, and I'd like to get into TV/Film, so I thought it would be good to take some improv and camera classes.
What do you think?

I'm Mischka and thought I could give you my advice. I am currently taking up acting workshops at The International Academy of Film and Television. I believe that chances of succeeding as an actor are greatly enhanced by studying drama. So here I am trying to develop my confidence and creativity with this exciting course.I've heard they do offer shcolarship programs here. You may want to check this one http://www.filmschool.ph/admissions/sholarship.php

sirius, acting classes can't hurt. You don't have to go as a full time student either. I'm in the same boat as you. I have 23 years of theatre experience and am now wanting to make the change to film. I don't want to just go back to school as I don't have time for that now. However, I found good screen acting classes in my area and have done that. It's usually only once or twice a week for two months and that something I can handle easy and it isn't as expensive as a whole school.

Acting is the kind of Profession where Training never stops. There is always room for groth, there is always room for improvement. The day you decide you no longer need training is the day you should stop. =)
That being said, I would say make sure to AUDIT a class before you attend, and if nothing else, just be real with the people. Volunteer to work as a Janitor in exchange for classes, or work their box office, etc... Believe me, i have been there and know, but TRUST me, it is better to be proactive in a class and network at the very least as opposed to just trying to stay a float out here alone, it won't really happen.
There are AMAZING resources out here. Talk to people at SAMUEL FRENCH, talk to the staff of ARGENTUM PHOTO LAB. They are the best because they actually care and totally help you out across the Board. Seriously.
This is just me.
Keep rockin' on man.

Dano Dav said it best. You should audit a class first. Its always good to see what's being taught and to see if the style of what's being taught fits you. Taking classes will only hone your skills further, and it makes you more comfortable and ready for the real work. happy hunting in finding what you want!

There are several good schools that allow you to take only one or two classes at a time. I agree with others that you should always audit a class before you sign up and maybe only sign on for one class with a particular school to make sure it's what you're looking, therefore you don't waste money.
A few years ago, I worked for a school in exchange for a discounted rate on classes. I would help clean up the rooms, make copies, run errands, etc. for a few hours a week and I think I got a 40% discount. Might be something you want to ask when shopping around for schools. Good luck!
