Hey! Im sorry to take your time but please tead through this, I woukd appreciate it so much!
I am 12 years old and i want to become an actor, but how can i do it? I mean, i am SO in love with acting. It is'nt about fame at all for me, all I can think about is acting: entertain people, just doing the job. I know that acting is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world, but I know I can do it, I can put my heart and soul into acting, I can give up everything for acting, acting is just me! i have'nt thought about anything else than acting since I was like 4 years or something. And int isnt like everyone else who want's to become actors. For me, its EVERYTHING, Acting is my thing <3
But the problem is my parents, if I just mention acting they would laugh their eyes ou, in my family, EVERYONE just has to become doctors or something like that, my family does'nt support me at all. I love acting but they just dont get that. They think that because there is like 100000000 people in the world who wants to become actors, I wont be one of the few who can do it. But i can, if I work hard I can do it, because I want it more than anyone else it the whole world, my family just does'nt care about what I want.
And the other problem is that i live in a small town in Sweden, there have'nt been any auditions here in like 5 years or so. If i even mention to go to America or something to my family, they will refuse! I will never be able to go somewhere where there are any auditions.
So how can i bevome an actor? Is it easy if i wait till im 18, then travel to america myself? Because if i look, most of the actors start their career when their around 10 years old ? Will I get a acting career if im a newbie when im 18 ?
But im good at acting too, if I could go to a audition right now, im sure i would get the part.
Please give me some advice!

Well MissCutiie, sadly without your parents support you won't be able to do much professionally. Especially in America. You have to have your parents consent because you are a minor and you will be until 18. However, what about your school? Do you have a theatre/drama department? Is there a local/community theatre? Just because you aren't doing professional jobs doesn't mean you're not acting. That way at least you can get to learn more and get your acting bug scratched.

I find it hard to believe there is no acting in Stockholm. If there isn't, form a drama club at your school and start yourself. 20 isn't too old to start, btw; plenty of people start older than that.

I want to add to CSilvera's comments--there are no auditions where you are?! Do you mean there are no auditions for movies where you are or no theatre or classes or anything? Perhaps your parents would be open to letting you take an acting class, for starters? And don't worry about being too old--most actors don't start the business stuff until they are out of school (18 or older) so you have many years before you'll have to worry about that!
Fist of all the thing you will get so tired of hearing is: YOU ARE SOO YOUNG!
I am hearing this at the Age of 25! It is starting to lose it's value though, I must say, again, my own opinion =)
I would say create theater with friends! Put on a show for your Parents who laugh at you. Show them how passionate you are!
READ! As many plays as you can get your hands on: Shakespeare, Chekov, ANYTHING Greek. A lot of it might not make sense to you at your age, but starting to climb the mountain early never hurt anyone! Watch movies, Old Movies, New Movies, Comedies, Dramas...
There is also a great Festival in Scotland (Edinburgh) Ask to take a Family Trip there!
It is so exciting to see someone so young asking questions! NEVER STOP!! Take things with a grain of sand, trust your gut, and ultimately know that this is a subjective Industry. Which means there is no one way. What works for some will not work for others. One of the Most imporatnt things is to genuinely learn who YOU are, it SO will effect the kind of Artist and Actor you will be, and you will Thank yourself for it.
NOW GO GET EM!!! =) Best of Luck!

Most of us had experiences similar to yours. Parents, or someone, warned most of us, that the entertainment industry is difficult, too dangerous, a bad influence, whatever. Most of this is absolutely NOT TRUE. Sometimes people are jealous that you are following your dreams when they couldn't, some simply don't understand how the industry works. This is just like any other business. It is more difficult than most, but well worth the work. Although you probably won't be famous, there are lots of actors who work regularly, and many that don't even have a second job.
As many people have already mentioned, agents, directors, and casting directors don't expect you to have experience at 18. In fact, many are reluctant to hire people under 18; there are many more restrictions on when and how children can work.
Finally, here is the advice I wish someone had given me when I was 12, and interested in becoming an actor:
1.Find a good acting teacher, if it is at all possible in your area.
2. As mentioned before, read. I would recommend "Audition" by Michael Shirtliff, and anything by Stanislovski that you can get your hands on. You should probably stay away from books on how to get an agent, get a manager, and how to promote yourself. The business changes so much, that by the time you are 18 that may have changed. Also it will probably be frustrating since you can't really do any of that stuff yet, and many of those books are really bad/stupid.
3.When you are a little older 14, 16, start getting trained for a job that will not interfere with auditioning.
4. Save every penny you can. Starting out as an actor can be expensive: headshots, gym memberships, acting classes, subscriptions etc.
5. Get the best grades you can. This might seem ridiculous. I know many actors who got interested in acting because it is the only thing they were good at, and their acting/drama class is the only thing that kept them coming to school. But, there are some terrific acting schools and acting programs in universities, that you might want to attempt when you turn 18. Not only will your grades count, you will need to be able to get 2 very good references.
I hope that helps. H

First of all, let me say how great I think it is that you have so much passion at your age. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life when I was 12. All I have to say is hang on to that determination and ambition. Emerse yourself with books. Read as many acting books as you can, study movies and plays, and take all the acting classes that are available to you. You should definitely follow what your heart tells you to do and if acting is it, well my dear, this is only the beginning. You've conquered one of the first tasks that takes many adults years to figure out. You know what makes you tick. You've figured out your passion and that's half the battle.
And although you're not auditioning for a big movie tomorrow, or dancing on broadway next week, you can begin perfecting your craft from where you are right now.
Hang on to those dreams, because they really can come true. I wish you all the luck in the world!
