Since we pretty much ruled that actorsreps is not Legit what about Centralcasting or Background INC? has anybody worked or done any work for these agenies?

I heard central casting charges a fee? and BTW I don't understand how you submit yourself for a role, does that mean automatically you get the job? what if others apply? Please Help!!

Central Casting is strictly background/extra work. I know they don't charge a fee for kids but they do charge a one-time $25 fee for adults. (you can check their site for details).

They are also the payroll company.

They are very legit. My daughter has gotten work through them and was paid within 10 days of the shoot (she also got a SAG waiver/voucher)

With Central Casting, you call their casting line (union or non-union) and the recording lists the jobs available. You call the number given on the job listing and they tell you if you can work or not. For kids, they just call you since they don't get a ton of work for kids.

Do you know if they cast soapopera extras?

If Central Casting were really legit, they wouldn't try to get actors to pay $25.00 to store the actors photo in their files.

Sylvia Fay and Grant Wilfley never charged us and we made thousands of dollars thru them

I worked for central in la not new york and it is well worth the 25 dollars. It works differently in la some not all but some charge to join there casting service and if you want to do background in la you had better get your but down to central pay your coin and hustle to get work for if you want to be an antique shopper on ghost whisperer thats the way to go about it.

But always strive for more

I am signed up with Central Casting and while I have not done one thing with them (mostly my choice and the lack of me calling their hotline) however, a few of my friends who have signed up with me have done at least 4-5 things each since February of this year. They are known as one of the best background companies in LA. I think it's worth it. It's $25 for 2 years membership and just 1 job will already have you ahead as far as money goes. My advice, call the hotline everyday just because most of the times they need people that day or the following day and I always miss those. Actually, if you sign up with them call 3 times a day. That would probably be your best bet.

Best wishes.

First you'll want to get in the habbit of calling casting directors "casting directors" or "Casting companies" and talent agencies "agenices"
It will clear things up me thinks.
Central casting is totally legit, but all they do is background- which is work perhaps, but dont expect it to lead anywhere.

I kinda work for both as an extra.

Central casting has an... I guess an intro class thing once a week describing their hotline system and what not. You pay 25.00 to register and they take a snapshot of you holding a number sign matching the one on top of your form. They do tv shows mostly. Min. Wage. You can also submit online as well.

I forget if they take commission or not. So that is a ? Honestly, as non union it's not really worth it in terms of money. I did saw over 30 top celebs rehearsing while BG. I think seeing Danny Devito dancing was awesome he was with the Las Vegas/Transformers guy.

As for background inc, you send your headshot in, someone if they want you will call you in. You go in to this little waiting room, which is really their entire office. You pay the person 50.00 and fill out a form. That's it. No intro or what.

Background will randomly call you for work. "Can you work 4hrs. from now?" "Can you work tomorrow?" "Pay rate is 200 a day, you're avaliable tomorrow right?" The more you say yes the more they will call. I said no a lot and boom, no calls. But it's starting to pick up again.

I would like to clarify that Background Inc DOES NOT TAKE COMMISSION. I accidently said they did in an old post because I was working with 4 agencies and got confused. The check from my background work did have a "agency commision" coloum but upon further inspection the cut was for taxes. I read the confusing payslip wrong.

I only work for Background Inc now, they find more pay work and everybody treats there extras better.

So does Background Inc force you to pay the $50 to register? I am confused by this, I was randomly called in by them because they saw me on NYcasting.com, and I didn't register with them, they just booked a job for me. However, not called again and I think it's because I didn't go in and register afterwards (although they and their website didn't provide info on how to do this).

Central--when i joined, the $25 fee was optional because it was for being in the electronic system as digital photos. You could not pay and they'd just keep a hard copy of the photo they take of you on file plus your headshots if you have them. However, maybe this is no longer optional, as their system went digital last fall.

MY REPLY: Central in NYC does not have an intro class thing. They provide a brief list of clear instructions at a number you dial of theirs. You can also check out Central's website, which also outlines what one has to do in order to register, you can even download the application form from them there!

YOU: You pay 25.00 to register and they take a snapshot of you holding a number sign matching the one on top of your form. They do tv shows mostly. Min. Wage. You can also submit online as well.

MY REPLY: Central has been known to waive the registration fee. Central also casts extras for major theatrical film productions, both union and non-union. However, I have not heard Background Inc. waiving their fee once...? Anyone?

YOU: I forget if they take commission or not.

MY REPLY: Central does not take a commission, they get paid by the production company. So does Grant Wilfley and several others.

MY REPLY: NEITHER DOES CENTRAL CASTING OR GRANT WILFLEY. And the more you work for them and are agreeable, show dependability and such, the more they will remember you and contact you for work.

MY REPLY: I have not worked for Background Inc. as I'm still trying to justify paying my way for background work. $50 is a lot of money for me right now to part with for possible background work. Who else has found Background Inc. to be fairly regular after plunking down the fee?

(Ray and Rita) You have worked with Sylvia Faye before? They lady I babysit for used to work with her a lot when she was younger and did modeling for a bunch of magazines. Do you know a way of contacting her or the agency? I lost the phone number. I can call my friend as well but I would love to hear what you've done with her. thanks so much

geez. "My Reply" "You" "My Reply" You".......

What I meant about Central Casting intro thing was their open call during the week. Where you go in to a room and they hand out a booklet and describe to you what they do. Not very long just to be informative. If they changed it, they may have.

This one agency called me out of the blue for extra work and I didn't realized it till later that they took out commission. That one agency does, don't worry nobody mentioned them at this thread. I don't work for them anymore.

The work Central Casting and Grant Wilfley finds are slightly more picky okay? They are more selective. And the more selective it gets the worse it is for you. And the pay is MINIMUM WAGE at best. (I'm assuming you are non union as well.) It's also way too many people.

Background Inc does a lot of COMMERCIALS and the rate for non union commercials is 75.00 for 3hrs., 150.00, 200.00 to 250.00 A DAY.

ONE JOB and that 50 bucks is already covered back plus more. I have a separate extra resume going I did 22 jobs with them (Background Inc) over the course of two years so on average 1 job a month. (Those I lost track of some.)

Money and work wise I would go with Background Inc. Here's the comparision:

NON UNION

Background Inc:
Jobs with:
-ABOVE MIN. WAGE RATES 75.00- 150.00-200.00-250.00
-NOT overcrowded
-Clients aren't as picky so your chances of more work increases.

Central Casting etc:
Jobs with:
-AT MIN. WAGE
-REPEAT: AT MIN. WAGE
-Overcrowded as hell.
-Clients are more selective.

Some math:
75.00 for 3-4hrs.
-50.00 reg.
=25.00 profit

or:

200.00 for the day
- 50.00 reg.
=150.00 profit

Your call.

Hey, Background just book me for tomorrow!

Later.
