I am going to produce my first show. I am doing a four person play. I want to know if anyone knows of any decent theatres in Manhattan.

80-100 seats is what I am looking for. I am sick of hearing about the Producer's Club only. If you know of anything else I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,
j

If you pick up a copy of Backstage, you will find a ton of classified listings in the back for theater spaces for rent. I am not sure if they have the same listings online (maybe Jackie can let us know?) but I know that the print edition has a good list for you.

Best of luck!

All good suggestions. You can also hit the Drama Bookshop and buy a copy of The Space Book which lists all of the available production and rehearsal facilities, their technical specs, fees, and contact information. I finally bought a copy, I got tired of making notes on taxi receipts from the store copy <g>.

That said, once you have narrowed down your choices, visit the spaces. Don't send a friend or your stage manager. Go and look, make sure they are all they say they are and have everything they say they have. Make sure it works, check the bathrooms, and if there's a show in the space now, call the producer and talk to them. The hundred bucks you save on one place over another may come back to haunt you ten-fold. Good luck!

Best regards,
Joe
