I'm kinda new (within the last year) to the whole acting scene so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Does it pay to submit a headshot and resume to a casting director or is it just a waste of money? Do they only go through talent agents when casting? Just wondering because I saw on backstage that they list all of the production listings for NY and LA, along with who's doing the casting. I just assumed it's for actors to send they're stuff to but I wasn't sure. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Honestly, it's probably a waste of money. The big CDs do go through agencies almost exclusively, and they also cast role to role; if the submission is just general and not for a specific role, it will prbably not be acknowledged really. There are exceptions but that's usually how it goes. Also, even if there was a role perfect for you that they can't find enough of, they won't call you if you aren't in LA or NY.
So it's pointless in your case no matter how you look at it.
