Is it possible for a semi trained 18 year old ingenue who can play younger to get enough non-union indie and student film work in New York during the summer months to make it worth my while going there? How long does the typical project last from auditions though post production? I have relatives in Westchester that I could stay with over my summer break from June through the middle of September and I would like to do it if I could have a realistic chance of getting some good reel material. If so, what do I need besides an actorsaccess account, good headshots and a starter reel? I have already been working with the film students at my school but I want to make sure I have enough for a REALLY good starter reel by the time I graduate. Help?

With Columbia, NYU, CCNY, Purchase, NYFA, etc it is almost impossible not to get cast in at least several films..... Casting begins in the spring.
Use NYCastings, Actorsaccess and Backstage for notices.

Thanks! I have been so busy that I forgot to look back here until now. I am assuming that the casting that starts in spring continues into the summer? I am not looking to get into anything big. Just student shorts and whatnot where I can get a copy for my reel if it is good.

I also want to thank the people on here who have harped on making your own work. I got bored last summer and wrote six short screenplays that included good parts for me. Some of the film students are fighting over them! We have already made one and I will be playing opposite a drama faculty member in another next weekend. The only drawback is that some of the screenwriting students are starting to hate me. haha

Try to go for the grad thesis as they are more experienced and usually better prepared. Right in the middle of one for CCNY now for my son. He has an audition tomorrow at Purchase. It just goes on and on and on...It gets to the point that you see the same kids at each audition.
