So, I had a great idea for those of you seeking LEGIT classes in Vegas. You can take them at the university but without having to do four years worth for a degree. I only just thought of it a day ago and from what I read on the UNLV website, you can take 8 credits a semester, for "personal enrichment" is what they call it. So, as I still have six more months here while I work and save, I intend to do that! I feel so upset that I never thought of before, like when I was here full-time years ago or for the last 12 months I have been stuck here. Better late than never, eh? I can't wait to get back into "shape"! Hope this helps those of you looking!

But if we get on a treadmill together you are going to get off first or I'm going to die. It's really that simple. I'm not going to be outworked." -Will Smith

As someone who just left Vegas in July to move to LA here is my opinion: 1. LVA- My high school that I have very fond memories of. Yes your daughter will have to audition to get in and if she does it is pretty intense. My first two years I had no other life outside of one rehearsal after another but I loved it. By my junior year I slowed down a bit to pursue other things but I will say the teachers there are fantastic- some of whom still work there! They were committed to us and really gave us a strong foundation in theatre & dance. So far our only "famous" alums are Rutina Wesley, Ne-Yo, and Matthew Gray Gubler- though I expect more in the future. 2. Acting Classes- If you found someone who you truly feel is worth your time & money good for you. I honestly could not! And anyone who is associated with JRP in ANY WAY will not get a dime from me. I had friends who worked for them and it was such a scam it was repulsive! I did, however, attend monthly meetings held by the NV Sag Conservatory. No I'm not a member of SAG yet but guess what- you don't have to be. Here's a link to their most recent meeting, use it for the contact info if you're interested: http://sagactor.blogspot.com/2...-dance-workshop.htmlOverall I love visiting Vegas but I'm sooooooooooo glad I don't live there anymore. Save your money and get out!

I was born and raised in Vegas! A couple of my friends went thru the program at LVA and enjoyed it. I'd say it's certainly a better option than any of the "normal" public school's options, where you'll only likely have a single theatre class each year. I have a large number of friends from UNR (from up north in Reno) that have gone or are going thru the UNLV Film Dept. right now (including a lot of acting stuff), and they've been enjoying it for the most part. If you can do 8 "personal enrichment" credits, that's 2-3 classes a semester; that could be a fun option to check out what they have to offer. AND you'll be getting a whole semester of class for likely about the same if not less money than classes and workshops here in LA or NYC that only run 4-8 weeks. I didn't know there was a NV SAG Conservatory, I'll have to look for that next time I'm visiting!
