Absolutely, CDs do look at submissions. If they have taken the time to post the breakdowns, then they are expecting submissions. Even when breakdowns have not been posted, submitting general submissions for possible upcoming roles that fit your type is a great way to get on, or stay on their radar. There are never any guarantees, but it never hurts to try. Marketing yourself is something to get used to as part of the business of show business. Submitting on a regular basis is part of that. This is where postcards come in handy following a first submission with your headshot/resume, to help keep CDs up to date with your current happenings such as appearances and classes and such. For the most part, Casting Directors that cast for principal roles are different than the casting companies that cast for background (extras). To submit for background work, you can do that through various sites that post background roles, or by registering with the casting companies that book background roles.

I look at every picture that is submitted to me when casting my projects. It may be for only a matter of seconds, but when I am casting, I know exactly what I am looking for and it's easy to spot those headshots. It is different for studios, but in my work, I will make three piles: yes, no, or possible extra. I hope this helps. Best, Ron http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0114583/www.ronbrownheadshots.com
