can you list getting the part of an understudy on your resume? I think it should count but does anyone else? Thanks

heck yea! it's an actual contracted position IN the cast, so why wouldn't you?

have you read the bios of broadway actors? they ALL list their u/s positions.

being an u/s is NOT the same thing as being an extra (on camera).

you list ALL u/s credits on your resume. go to playbill.com and start reading those bios and be proud of those u/s roles!

can you do that even if it isn't B'way? Maybe it's silly, but my auditioned for a student film and was told the director loved my dd but had to give the role to a younger girl because the character was younger than my dd. The director said she loved my dd though and said she wanted her to be the understudy. Would that still count, it's not B'way after all, but my dd is pretty new and could use the credit if that is really a credit. Thanks again.

What exactly is an understudy for a film?

No that is not a credit. If she never actually films it is not considered work.

like I said, maybe it's a silly question, thought I'd give it a shot just in case.

What about theatre? Right now, I'm studying the lines for 2 roles (kids) and have a 99.9% chance of getting one of them. I'm going to start rehersals and stuff soon.

ok, let me expand.

ALL theater actors, Broadway, tours, regional, community theatre... union or non-union...

EVERYONE lists understudy roles on a resume. Again, it's a position in the cast, so just like you would list anything else, you list those too.

It doesn't matter whether or not you ever go on, you always list it. But if you DO go on, you would list it as

Show RoleName u/s (performed) Theatername

there's no such thing as a film understudy. so i have no idea how that would be listed because it's not anything that exists in the normal on-camera world.

but you can read bios with examples on playbill.

I have a question: with the three-column format, for a Broadway play you just put the name of the theater in the third column? Not the director? And do you put "Broadway" anywhere, or do you just list it under "Theater" and by putting the name of the theater, they'll know it's Broadway?

(Just trying to figure out the accepted resume format - thanks!)

I heard you don't want the venue, but the guys that are actually doing it.
It's a debate for the director's name, unless it's somebody well known in the theatre world.

What do you mean by "the guys who are actually doing it"? Would that mean something like, say, The Nederlander Organization?

No, the real name of the theater, then maybe NY after it. All legit casting directors know which ones are on Broadway or not.

Did your dd get that show?

Example: The Hobbits Rep are the guys running the show/performing, but they're performing at the Gondor theatre. Hobbits Rep are the guys running the show and Gondor theatre are the venue.
Unless Gondor Theatre are the guys are also running the show/performers than you put their name.

Yes, she got the understudy role. Smiler (I was hesitant to post about it because everyone here keeps saying "Don't post any identifying information!", so I didn't know if that also meant "Don't say what roles your child gets!" But someone else just posted about their dd getting a TV-movie and linked to imdb, so I guess it's okay?)

I'm really thrilled and still can't believe it, because she's just starting out - I wasn't expecting something like this! (And I did double-check and they confirmed there will NOT be nudity, so we can rest easy about that.)

Anyway, so back to the question - so third column would be the name of the actual theater, not the director. Thanks!
