I didn't audition for them, but I was in a scene with my girlfriend when SHE was auditioning for them.

all I gotta say to you is just go full out, try to do something with range, but not all over the map, you know, maybe some comedy and sentiment, but stay focused on something specific, I was seeing "angry" scenes all day, it's just so easily accessible.
Thats of course if they're still doing scenes

Not too sound like an idiot, but I didn't even know there was still a stand alone Actors Studio outside of the MFA programs at The New School and Pace. But sure enough I found their website.

Also, what are the benefits to being a member? Do they have classes? Do they do shows? I just ask because there are lot's of great places to take classes in LA and NY. I am not knocking it I guess I am just wondering if it is something worth looking into because in all my time in LA I have never heard any actor mention The Actors Studio.

Unless I'm wrong here, I don't think that The Actors Studio in L.A. should be confused with THE Actor's Studio in NY (the one with the Bravo show "Inside the Actor's Studio").

The one in New York is very prestigious. As for the one here, not sure if they are a full school or just a workshop place. Any website to check them out?

Below is the website and there appears to be an LA branch.

Yeah, please let us know how the audition goes and what it's like. Also, can you let us know why you decided to audition? In other words what are the benefits of being a member? Break a leg!

Well one reason although this is not the primary reason is that membership is free and for life. That just says a lot about the studios goal. Also the people who have trained at the studio ( although i think most of them at the NY studio)Brando Clift Dean Pachino Deniro ect. When that kind of talent comes out of one group they must be doing something right. Another reason is that they accept so few actors into the program I know that I will be working with the best. I dont believe you achieve greatness unless you learn from greatness. Anyway my audition is in a few hours, off to bed. I give an update tomorrow.

"Dear Brian,

Thank you for presenting a preliminary audition scene.

The judges have not passed you for a final audition at this time,
however, they do think you are talented. They thought you both did a
nice job on the scene but that "there was no variety-it was all one level".
You are welcome to come back for another preliminary audition after a year
from now. If you should decide to come back we would suggest a scene with
more behavior and transition.

In the meantime, thank you for yor intrest in The Actors Studio and the time you devoted to the scene."

And that was that. So a guess it's ask nicely to audition again this year, but expect to audition sometime next year, with a more dramatic scene. I just wish I was being juged on ability alone not the ability to schoose a proper scene. Also how do I know they don't say this to everyone.

Zenial,

Congratulations on auditioning in the first place. You should be proud of yourself just for doing it.

It's been a while since I was up on the Actors Studio, but from what I understand application to the lifetime membership is very competitive. I think many actors who apply are already quite experienced. It was also great that they gave you specific feedback, so you know what you need to work on.

Best of luck in your future.

This is a pretty tough program to get into, and like it says, it's for professional caliber actors only.

I believe Dustin Hoffman was rejected 3-4 times before they let him in to give you an idea of the kind of talent they accept.

Celebrities get rejected from this program. You shouldn't feel bad.

Zenial:

First of all: good for you. Both for going and for getting some pointed feedback. As Camille said, you now know what you need to work on (at least for the Actors' Studio.)

I would think carefully about re-applying within one year, however. "...come back for for another preliminary audition after a year from now." is pretty clear language. You need to strike a balance between being assertive/showing them you're interested and the risk of having them think you don't listen/can't follow directions, especially with such a competitive program.

Break a leg, whatever you do.
