As someone who is farely new to this business I have been looking for open casting calls, but seem to find that its either near impossible or very expensive (to sign up to websites like instantcast etc).

Does anyone have any good advice for a way to look for open casting calls for (and specifically) Soap operas.

Also, is there a way to find out where and when the casting is held for sides posted on Showfax?

Thanks!

Soap operas generally don't have open calls. Auditions for sides posted on showfax are generally available only to agents.

Soaps don't have open calls. Send your headshot to every casting director/associate/assistant for each soap. Also, you're going to have to meet the casting directors at places like: Actors Connection, Breakthrough Studios and The Network.

As far as those sides that are posted on Showfax go, those are for actors that asked to come in to audition. If they're looking for something specific it's possible that they would call you in to audition for an Under-5 via Actors Access, then you would go to Showfax to get the side. Every now and then I do see roles posted on Actors Access for soaps.

Thanks Snuka,

Can you tell me what "Actors Connection, Breakthrough Studios and The Network" is? Are they agencies or websites?

Open casting calls are a thing of the past. With the possible exception of certain theater companies, film and television casting directors do not hold these kind of sessions.

It's relatively simple to go on-line and track down who's casting what but keep in mind that it's not the best move to submit to LA/NY casting directors if you actually live in Miami. It's not like there's an actor shortage in LA/NY.

Good luck!

I'm in NY and Actors Connection, The Network and Breakthrough are NY-based studios where you can audition for and meet agents and casting directors in seminars/classes. I don't know if LA has places like these.

You do have to pay for these seminars/classes. They are worth it. I know 2 people that booked work on soaps because they met soap casting directors at one of these studios.

Actors Connection does have LA events. You should go to their website and check them out.
