I recently created a free membership with Actors Access and realized you need to either pay for submissions separately or have a paid Showfax account to submit for free.
Was wondering if anyone uses Actors Access and pays for each role they submit to or if you have a Showfax account and have you found the cost to be worthwhile?
Thanks in advance!

I would just pay for the unlimited submissions account. You are certain to submit to more than 34 projects in a given year. Also you don't have to worry about whether it's worth the cost of submitting-just submit! The cost is worthwhile I believe.

I pay by the role, but do submit for only a handful of projects.

I faced the same dilemma. But since I only submit for my 10 y.o. daughter and child roles are so scarce, I just do by submission. Try going by the submission for a month or so. Then do the math and choose the option that makes the most economical sense.

I would go with the unlimited submission plan, too.

I always though it odd that they would ask you to pay for a submission for a non-paying project... and I wouldn't.

Two of the 3 actors in our family subscribe each year, and found it has always paid for itself within the first 2 months. The other advantage to the year subscription is that you can get sides for free, instead of paying a dollar a page. And you are not limited to only the sides for your specific auditions. You can get any that you want to use for practice, although there might be a limit of how many you can download per day, but I believe it's a fair amount.

I should have probably added that we are in CA, so there might be more breakdowns that make the subscription worth our while. It believe the amount of breakdowns are different per city, so the advice on keeping track of how many submissions against the cost is worth checking out to see what works best for each individual. Especially if you don't need sides very often.

I also have an account on actors access, but I do not submit my roles through there. With the information that they provide for the casting director, I google that information. It might be a little search and sometimes you get directly to the person, but whatever the case is I would not pay to submit a role. I have spoken to casting directors through this process and it works for me. Again I just use actors access for the audition dates, casting directors names and locations.

I do the per submission fee too. I count how many times I submitted each year when I do my taxes, and if I ever end up paying as much as the yearly fee, then I'll buy the unlimited account. That hasn't happened to me so far.

And at $2 per submission, you aren't really spending more than what it would cost to mail out a resume, if you break down your cost per photo plus postage. I did it once, and it came out close.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions everyone!
Accessmom - I may try your method before paying for any submissions. Good to know it is feasible.

I would argue for the yearly fee. You will find that you submit for more things because it is already paid for and you can get free sides from Showfax as part of the deal. Sometimes I like to get sides even if my dd does not fit the breakdown just to see what kind of roles are out there. For kids, there is great commercial copy and scenes from films that we use to practice with. I don't know what is on there for adults.
