Ok, so I this past month I went out on 5 auditions and got cast in three student films. As a side note, the first audtion was for a tv pilot that I was so nervouse at, that my voice started to tremble. I coulnt believe it. But that was the last of that. I am new to all of this so my question is-how well art students films looked at on your resume? I think it has been great for me in term of the experience and exposure for my own comfort and growth. But how does a CD of a commercial or TV or film project look at them. Also, I read here somewhere that if you dont have any representation, that that a lot of CD's wont even look at your self submissions on say a nycastings.com. well whats the point of these sites if you wont be considered for not having a rep. Would I even need the sites if I had an agent. Some beginners questions. Thank you so much.

I wouldn't worry so much about CD's right now and representation at this point in your career. Trying to find one would just be bad and discouraging to someone this early. As far as student films are concerned you should just be in a position to get experience, and add projects to your resume and demo reel. From all that i've heard and read this business generally revolves as "1 thing leads to another" so just get the ball rolling and keep working so that when a bigger project comes along, your prepared. And remember that all the CD's and agents WILL remember your name so don't sabotage yourself by submitting your work for representation too early. If your too ancy to learn and can't wait to work just go to the library and pick up all the books on theatre and acting in general. Even if your not interested in doing stage work the processes that an actor must go through, discipline and different ways to think about things are essential to your success. This is coming from a personal belief. I'm currently working 2 jobs and going to school at night while balancing 3 or so books at a time on this subject. It sounds like your asking the right questions and have the right frame of mind but just stay small and build up that way. I hope this helps and don't everything i say as gold. I'm still new to this but have just been making every hour of the day count and studying as much as possible and auditioning whenever the dates match up.
take care,
Matt
