Anyone know of any reputable places that might be offering a free class? I know there's no such thing as free, especially in theatre, but I know I've heard of a couple places (like "hey i saw your commercial" etc.) and just wanted some feedback. Thanks!

HISYC is not an acting class, it's a 3 hr sales pitch, with some honestly inaccurate for right now information (which i also know factually since he used several of my boyfriend's twin brother's commercials as examples in his sales pitch, obviously not knowing they were my bfs twin brother's commercials- as in, he created them, cast them, and his ad agency produced them, but used them in a wrong, misleading way. we didn't speak up, just decided he wasn't for me since he clearly didn't know as much as he thought or purported to know).

maybe when the information he gave is accurate again, i'll reconsider it, but not right now. there isn't much point to it at the moment, since commercials are MUCH slower than usual, which we all know, but clearly he doesn't.

as for other free classes, they are usually audits, and more often then not, they are not working audits. so you sit there and watch. silently.

but the bigger question is-
what do you expect to be able to learn in a 1-3 hr intro class that you take one time, in which you basically hear the teacher trying to sell his or her class and teaching skills? not much, which is why they aren't considered classes (dont put HISYC's "free class" on your resume, he won't like that very much, someone asked in my session; despite the fact that he advertises himself as a "casting agent", yup, look at his banner on the outside of the building, "casting agent", of which we also know there is no such thing; 2 strikes now. "free" doesn't always mean good or accurate, so be careful with that too!).

you need to be in a real class. and those cost money.

a much cheaper option maybe than spending $200-400 a month in classes?

join a theatre company that does classes, workshops, and seminars. they usually charge $40-75 a month, but you get all kinds of things with your membership, if you find the right company, so do your research for sure.

Any class you get for free is probably worth what you pay. Most places that offer a "free class" are more interested in getting you to sign up rather then teaching you anything. Or sometimes they just let you watch other people learn.
