So I'm an actor who does a lot of musical theatre. However, I'm more of a professional lackey rather than being a leading man.

Since I'm rarely a lead, I haven't put a lot of money into making a cd or a recording.

Is this something I should put some money into so I can have something on my electronic resume and something to hand people at auditions?

someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think its doubtful that a casting director will actually look at something like a CD or DVD if you just hand it to them unsolicited at an audition. Unless they specifically ask for a reel or a demo, it'll probably end up in the trash.

jen,

You are not wrong. It's a bit of a turn-off to be handed any unsolicited item at an audition.

Let your audition speak for itself. And, at the end of the audition, speak as little as possible. Leave the room quickly so that the last memory I, as a director, have of you is your wonderful audition.

Good luck!
