I'm considering checking out Playhouse West within the next week or so and wanted some feedback on what others who have taken a class there thought about it, or those who have heard anything good/bad. Also, would anyone have reccomendations regarding voice (singing) coaches??? Thanks for any advice!

Let me know if you find anything out! I audited a class at Playhouse West yesterday. It was interesting, completely different to what I thought an acting class was supposed to be like. (I hope that's not some kind of sign... lol) I'm reading this book, The Art of Acting by Stella Adler, I really like the book and the class is really similar. The beginning stages are all about the method of immersing yourself into a role so that you don't have to "act". Really interesting. If you audit a class, you can go see one of their plays for free. Which I think I'm going to do. Just to see what the "final product" of their teaching really is. And I definitely need a good voice coach, lol. I'd be interested in one closer to orange county though.

Thanks for the info regarding Playhouse West! Were you able to find out the cost each month for classes? I'll check it out for myself very soon to see if I like what they have to offer. I'm considering checking out classes at the Howard Fine Acting Studios also. Like you, a vocal coach in Orange County would be great for me too!

Well, I'll certainly let you know if I hear about any kind of voice lessons in the area. The monthly cost of Playhouse West is $180 a month. A great price compared to everything else I've seen so far. I'm auditing a class for Howard Fine tomorrow

Argh, well they were closed. I sat around forever and finally called their office and they were closed for memorial day. I guess I'll have to go next week, but I thought it was very unprofessional for them to actually tell me to be there. And I wasn't the only one! There was another couple that was supposed to be auditing that stopped by as well. :\ I did stop by Beverly Hills Playhouse, if you're interested in that. They don't allow auditing, but I'm fairly interested in their classes by what I heard from the interview. They teach the Stanislovsky technique instead of Meisner, like Playhouse West. They start directly with scenes instead of working with repetition for a long time. Their classes are more expensive. $600 starting out, which is for the first and last month of classes as well as books. And $340 monthly after the first month.

It looks like I'm at the same point as you two, I'm *hopefully* going to be auditing a class at howard fine on monday, and looking around at others too.
As for vocal studios, I did come across Orange County Music Academy. I have no clue if they are good or not, I haven't called ask about the program or to try a class yet so don't hold me on it. There's also this Voicercise place that does voice over workshops, but there are also singing lessons... but I think they mostly do group classes, they do also offer privates. But as for the OC, that's what I've found so far on the internet that didn't look too shady. But if I find out more, I'll let you know.
