Currently im living in FL, but im moving back to north New Jersey area.

Im looking at a few different places to study, and i found that HB studios is in the right price range for me at this time. So i have a few questions.Do they only teach Uta Hagen's method? Im really looking for more Strasberg/Eric Morris because thats what im studying right now, and I like it.(I do plan on studying other methods later on) Also, are there other big name schools with good reputations in that price range? Thanks in advance.

Danny

I take an Eric Morris style workshop here in FL as well and know of one in New York. I'm sure there are more, but have you checked out this one?

HB is largely Hagen-based (the "H" in HB).

It's a bargain because the school is subsidized by the city government.

It'll be hard to beat these prices, if that's a consideration.

HB Studios = Herbert Berghof

Uta Hagen and Herbert's teachings. I hear good things about them.

Break legs!

HB is good and relatively inexpensive, they are mostly slanted towards theatre, but provide good basic training.

Hi, I currently study at HB Studio. It is a very good school and the teachers definitely know what they are talking about. They mostly talk about Uta Hagen techniques, but also intertwine other methods. The only downfall, classes are overly crowded, so you dont get to perform every class.

Yeah, Ive looked at his website and im deffinitly gonna try him out as well. Have you trained with him?

Thanks everyone for your advice! Im gonna audit a class at HB soon to get a feel for how the classes are. Has anyone studied with Jeanne Kaplan?

Also, another quick question...How does Hagen's technique differ from the Strasberg/Morris style? Someone explained to me that it was complete opposite, saying Hagen is more external than an inside out approach like Strasberg and Morris, but they didnt go into much detail.

Thanks again in advance.

Danny's night out- check out the Bova Actors Workshop. As someone who has studied there for quite sometime, there is no other class like it in town. Anthony Vincent Bova teaches truth, irreverence, being and character work better then any teacher or class in town. It's a truly special experience and life changing. His classes start in a few weeks, so its the perfect time. Bovaactorsworkshop.com

If you are considering HB Studio, definitely get Uta Hagen's "A Challenge for the Actor" because the teachers at HB use that book as a textbook. She has 12 exercises in the book that you will do in front of the class every week (if you get the chance because the classes are crowded). There are teachers there who follow Meisner and Stanislavsky. Even though HB prices are great, you don't get to perform each week because of the class sizes so I would suggest looking up other schools with a smaller class size so that you can perform each week and get your money's worth no matter the price.
