Hello all,

I am new to acting and would like some help getting started. I live in Mass (central that is) and would like to take an acting class, preferably with and acting coach, one to one. Just for now. If anyone has some information, tips, contacts, or anything it would be much appreciated.

You can start by taking a group class, which is more cost effective (that is, taking a 6-week course for x amount vs. $100 an hour for personal coaching).

You can also audition for some local productions to gain experience. You will get to network with others, and probably get some good leads on where to go for further training. Even chorus or non-speaking parts in thetare have their benefits.

I would also continue to work on any hobbies or special talents you have. Life experience is the best experience for an actor, because our job is to "act natural", albeit in an unnatural setting.

I agree with glam but I would try to find a neighborhood theater, workshops, or study group place in Mass and join. I would go to your local bookstore or news stand and pick up books , and trade papers on acting and read up on things. Find out who in your neighborhood or close around you is involve in acting, music, or some form of performaning arts. Because some may think other wise but it all ties together. Make friends and network. Network is the key, and ask questions tons of it. Remember no question is stupid !!! knock em' died !!
