Has anyone here ever been the guy (or girl) in acting class who get into a heated argument with the teacher about their notes?

I have never done this, but I have seen it on many occasions. I can understand respectfully disagreeing with the... but what are these people thinking! Do they also yell at casting people if they don't get the response they want?

That's called "insecurity".

There's nothing wrong with a little give and take but there's no reason to get into a fight over a teacher's note. An actor should be open to all notes - especially from a teacher. Even if the actor doesn't agree with the note, there could be some part of it that's usable. And quite frankly, if a student is constantly fighting with his or her teacher, then why the hell are they still in that class???

I agree that there is no need to make drama...on the other hand...I did an experiment one time years ago. I took a monologue that I'd worked for a long time, and I took it to two different classes on consecutive nights. Honestly, I felt pretty good about the work on both nights. It felt pretty much the same. However...the two responses could not have been more different. One coach praised the work and the other crapped all over me.
It's kind of like when you do a film and the director uses the take that you hated, but most people love it.
This work is soooooooooooo subjective!
I don't know how many times I thought I sucked and then I get high praise.
I hate to say this, but sometimes it IS personal. I mean, if people like you they praise you and if they don't like you you suck.
Also, people's criteria for what makes good "acting" varies from person to person. One coach will say that you are "indicating just a little," while the other coach says to "do more."
I remember playing a cop who just got shot and was dying. I did all sorts of sense memory work, went into EXTREME pain on the set, thought I had nailed it, then we played it back and it looked like NOTHING. It was too internal. (Of course, it didn't help that it was shot in a cave with little to no light!)
Yeah, don't yell at your coach. If you think they suck then leave. You're paying for the abuse, after all. Find a coach that you trust. Watch how they critique the other scenes and decide if they really have an eye for the work. If not, go somewhere else.

It definitely is a subjective thing, but yelling at the teacher is never the answer.

I have been to many different schools in LA, and there was one class in which I saw actors praised that I didn't think did all that good. I didn't keep taking this class.

Then I was in another class, and I though the teacher was totally wrong (but I listened anyway)... and then when I watched the tape, he was right. This is the class I stayed with.

all in all you've got to have respect. Throwing a hissy fit just seems like a waste of time. and as an artist isn't beneficial to be completely picked apart, find out why, and rebuild better and stronger?

Arguments in that setting are unproductive at very best. Next time ask to talk to the instuctor after class and tactfully approach the subject. When gien a note or notes you disagree with ,say: "Thank you" then cool off and ask the instuctor for additional input.
Any teacher or instructor worth thier salt will take the time to explain thier reasons and work with you to fix the problem or at the very least come to a equitable solution
