quote: I have been unsing backstage, actorsaccess and nycastings website to find casting notices and although Im very happy with them, most of the casting are for background,is there a wbsite or service that shows more casting for principals roles or suporting roles that are not limited to background ??
principal roles in WHAT ? be specific. I suspect you are non-union, and are a beginner looking for some action to get experience. then stick to the what you are doing, many student films and non paying this and that pops up. also shop your headshot around the colleges film depts. and attend indie screenings and shop your headshot around that. If you are looking for plays, shop around the small playhouses and ask around I guess...

True, there are checks in place in the casting process. basically the casting directors will throw away your shot anyway if you arent sent via a proper agent in response to the breakdowns. BECAUSE... there are too many delusional "Actors" out there. each thinking they can act so good.. but if they can act so good, why is it that they dont have an agent to submit them? years and years of having to steal the breakdowns and submitting themselves... yes, too many of these types of people. Also, you have an X amount of these delusional actors who happen to come from wealthy familes ! so they submissions never stop, even if they dont work a single day in years ! they just keep paying high priced photographers for headshots, and keep taking classes everywhere... they clutter up the CD's mailbox, so unless your submission is sent via a REAL AGENT, they usually dont take you seriously.

The other obvious argument regarding the idea that "real actors have agents" is the fact that some agents are so bad that you might as well not bother with them. I mean, some of them are so lazy and submit so little and NEVER make any calls whatsoever. You wonder how they stay in business. And a lot of those kind have gone down the tubes since things have gotten even more cutthroat. Reality TV, runaway production, as well as producers getting cheap has made a difficult game nearly impossible. Friend of mine used to do guest spots, now gets one line here and there, the guest spots going to former series regulars. The entire food chain shifted. Keeping in mind that agents only really have a couple of spots that they actually submit for any given category, that means that there are going to be some very good actors out there unable to hookup. And it does you no good if they take you and sit on you, while submitting their number one favorite all the while. Again, you'd be better off without them than to be in that situation. No doubt there are acting class actors who satisfy their artistic desires in class and don't get out there and hustle for real work. Class can become the focus to the point where it's out of perspective. That's why I tell people to go out and get on a set of any kind, even a student film, because at least there is something at stake.
