CLEAR.
In his experience Americans may take one of these jobs, but they soon quit. Same kind of thing Shay was saying in is post.

But, hey, if you want to give it a try PB I'll get you a construction job. But you have to do everything my husband tells you to do with no arguing!

quote: Posted June 06, 2007 09:24 AM Hide Post No Camille, I wasnt saying that. First of all, it was my Dad, who has worked in and around Mexico and it's border with Texas for the past 22 years, and is married to a Mexican national, who was making a point. That even in Mexico, the reverse would not happen...that we are being taken advantage of in the US. No, of course we shouldnt be "more like Mexico", but that is not the point. Have you even visited the border region? Sometimes, a wall seems like a pretty good idea.
All the Best,
Rob Tode
Rob, Sorry I had such a huge reaction to your Hospital statement. I know that the hospital system can be exploited by people who end up defaulting on their bills-- and that is exactly what it is that happens, though it is protrayed by some as if you go to the head of the line if you are an illegal and get to go in for free. And I do think something needs to be worked out there-- IMHO taking the huge profit out of health care would be a start. However, I do not want to live in a country where you are sent home to die if you can't prove up front that you can pay your bill, which is essentially what you described. And that is essentially what happens in many places around the world. To answer your question, I have travelled extensively throughout North, Central, and South America and the Carribbean. I lived in Brazil for 4 years as a child. Later my parents lived in Honduras for 5 years and I visited them often. I first went to Mexico when I was 5, which was many years ago. Yes, I have been to the border region, though obviously not as much as you.

Seriously though, when was the last time you went to a service industry establishment and saw an American white kid or even adult working the kitchen? Theres a reason for that, teenagers and Americans for the VAST majority, don't want to do that work. Hell, when I was twenty I worked as a dishwasher in a cafe' and left about a month later, because I thought it sucked, so I'm not removing myself from that idea.
In that same article about the farmers losing their workers I read that, the workers, mostly illegal, were getting paid ten cents per usable strawberry picked, I think pears and oranges were in there too, now really, how many americans, in ANY economic station, are really out there trying to do that work.
they shouldn't get the same care, and should pay taxes, but they are a part of our economy, I don't theres any getting around that.

I have to say that I'm glad this particular bill failed. It's not a racial thing; I just don't get the rewarding of the illegal activity. It's one thing to look the other way, but to actually reward it is just crazy. An interesting observation that I often find is the people who mix "immigration" with "illegal immigration". Is there anyone here who understands the notion of giving "illegal aliens" drivers licenses? Are they the same people who let Paris Hilton out of jail? It pains me to know that men and women are dying everyday while fighting a war and the ones that are fortunate enough to return home see that they border is wide open - lock the freakin gate already!

Oh, you are so kind - feeling sorry for them. So, you think that we, Americans, do not work hard? And those ILLIGAL immigrants are poor people and we are so rude to send them back to places they came from? Are you saying that I have to feed these people in addition to paying taxes for everything? These people are lazy, street smart, uneducated and they do not want to get education, they do not want to learn our language and do not want to pay taxes - they want to take advantage of us and our country. They think that we are idiots. There is issue with older kids growing here to be sent to the country they never knew. It’s not big issue with Mexican as they maintain their “Mexican” way of living in household. It’s not our problem! It’s their parents who have to feel sorry for doing it to them. They come and they give birth on purpose – they are using their kids to take advantage of us. I am not feeling sorry for them even for a minute.

We already took half in the 1800's (the half with the paved roads, by the way) and we could sure use the oil right about now. Spring break trips would be even cheaper. The Mexican border with Guatemala and Belize is much shorter than its border with California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas -- linear miles sure add up when you're building a wall.
Cinco de Mayo could then be legitimately celebrated in the U.S., instead of the California legislature debating its adoption as a state holiday, as they did some five years or so ago (look it up -- this topic was actually brought up in Sacramento).
Also, by annexing the rest of Mexico, so many new Americans would speak Spanish that we might just have to put an end to the "English only" debate and get on with more important things (like finding Bin Laden).
I have to agree but lets take over Cuba also I have grown sick of tired of winter in Florida and no one over 50 can be admitted dam wait I am over 50. Hell lets take over the world. If any one doesn't play fair GWB can nuke them. The illegals chant can be at rallies that they have been having if though they are breaking the immigration law and who the police protect as they chant... TOAT THAT BARGE LIFT THAT PAIL. OR MAYBE PUSH PUSH PUSH WHEN WE RUN OUT OF OIL AND THE ILLEGALS ARE SUCH HARDWORKING PEOPLE AND NO AMERICAN WOULD PUSH WE CAN GET THEM CHEAP. THEN IF THEY NEED MEDICAL CARE OR ANYTHING JUST DUMP THEM AND LET THE GOOD OLE US TAXPAYER PAY FOR THERE NEEDS AS THEY HAVE BEEN FOR COUNTLESS YEARS. HELL WE HAVE THOUSAND OF HOSPITALS LEFT OUT OF THE HUNDREDS THAT HAVE GONE BANKRUPT BRINGING THE JUAN'S AND ROSS ETAS INTO THE WORLD. FOOD STAMPS SECTION EIGHT RENT..UM WELFARE.. What was I thinking when I thought they should all be deported yup we can all own one. I also want to say proudly that I am one of the last Americans who does yard work at my home. Do you think that when I can't get work as a actor I can dress up as a waiter and stand in a parking lot and I can be picked up and work and not pay taxes? Also I have 2 extra bedrooms in my house that I pay around $10,000 in property tax per year some which is used to support them. I can rent out to maybe 30 illegals at 400 bills per month 30 x 40 ...$12000 per month dam we can take advantage of these wetbacks why not they take advantage of the gringos. l

Well, it just amazes me how a group of actors, performers, w/e you are, can have so little empathy for other human being. If any of you had to play an illegal in a film, good luck. It's one thing to oppose illegal immigration but it's another thing to make racist and ethnic remarks... calling them wetbacks and lazy.
I for one, am a hispanic person. I was born and raised here, btw, so nobody try to kill me on the messageboard. I feel that the reason they risk so much to go over the border illegally is because they ARE DESPERATE. Mexico is a very poor, harsh country with a very small middle class population. I'm from the Dominican Republic which isn't as bad but I see how even the intelligent and college-educated have to come to NY and work illegally. Working in a shoe store or as a nanny in America can provide them with so much more than being a professor or doctor in their native country. I'm not saying that these illegals are particuarly educated... but I have seen extreme cases. Also, I do think that if they had to choose between the opportunity to go to school and working manual labor, they'd readily choose the first option. (That's why they send their children here.)
I do feel sorry for them because even though I am far from well-off, I have so many more opportunities than them simply because of where I was born. And that... is sad. I'm not saying you should feel like I do, but please understand that illegals don't come to the U.S. to bother you or rape your daughters. They need to provide for themselves and their families, and like anyone would, they do anything necessary.
My friend hired illegals to fix his house, and he paid them about 5 dollars an hour... and they were all estatic.
I think we should instead focus on building a better Mexico... instead of sending them back (partially because that's not going to work.) Mexico is a not a resort. It's f***in horrible.

I'm not making ethnic nor racist comments; it's not a funny situation. The thing is that, at some point, we have to look out for our own. You say that Mexico is horrible; why don't the leaders want it to be better for the citizens? I do have a lot of compassion for these people, but there are plenty of Americans that I have compassion for too. I just don't know if they should be "rewarded" for the illegal behaviour. I also don't think sending them back is the answer. The border has to be secured first, but Bush doesn't want that to happen.

WE HAVE TO "I think we should instead focus on building a better Mexico..."??????????? You are kidding? Are you? Why should we build Mexico? Do we have our own country to do it? We need to build boarders. I completely agree.
