how many of these production jobs are being taken by actors looking for work? Or how many production people get into acting?

Lots.

Personally, if I were to have to give up my acting career and take another full time job instead, it wouldn't be anywhere near a movie set. I couldn't be on set and see other people doing what I want to do.

There's alot where I live. You can't make any money up here, or supplement your income (dayjob-unless you're very lucky). So I heard they do other prod. type jobs in the industry. I'm thinking of doing prod. jobs along w/acting and the day job.

I totally agree..... and watching them suck at it would hurt even more.
