To be honest, from a sentimental standpoint, I'm kind of sad to see the show close. However, as a NYC actress, I'm not sure how devasting it is for the world of Broadway.
RENT had a 10 year run, made back it's money and then some and ranks #7 (I believe) as the longest running Bway show. Not too shabby.
And besides, there is an updated version getting tried out in London, so who knows? It may be back before you know it!

RENT is my favorite show...Im going to try and get tix for the last day incase they do something special. The last time I saw it, the original Mark and Roger had come back...Adam Pascals voice was unreal!

Lisa, you make some good points, and they can always bring it back later. I heard they are planning to give the Nederland (sp?) Theatre some much-needed renovations.
Fischy, have you read Anthony Rapp's book? Not sure of the title of it, but it's an autobiography and he focuses a lot on the casting and making of "Rent." I loved it and found it so interesting.

Well, I'm sad because I've made so much money over the years coaching cast members!
I'm kidding, that's not why I'm sad. But many of the RENT crew are my friends/students. And I love this show. And it brought Musical Theater to hundreds of thousands of kids across the country (and world) when it opened.
But it's getting a bit dated now. I'm always in favor of new, provocative shows! And I think the actors on Broadway are, too.
I wish shows lasted no more than a year on Broadway, simply to make room for new, provocative material. And to provide new roles and jobs for performers! - Jason B.
