Charlton Heston died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills.

I wonder if Moses needed a gun? An Israeli UZI assault weapon, perhaps?

Offense taken--what a sad thing to say at the time of the passing of one the few heroes in Hollywood to stick up for the rights of US citizens. How sensitive of you.

The first thing I thought was.... did they take the gun out of his "cold dead hands"?

In the day after I made that first post, I have heard so many people say the same thing.

I guess I wasn't very original.

Well, Iceman, I guess you have a lot of similarly insensitive friends, don't you? Let's see what you say when Barbra Streisand dies; or Sean Penn; or George Clooney.

Have you ever imagined that perhaps Iceman LIKES these actors?

In the very least, he's not a hypocrite -- the kind that condemn someone while they live, then give them a glowing eulogy at their funerals. Mentioning these three vocal anti-Bush advocates (my "heroes") with arguably the most visible Right Wing extremist of our time wasn't the best possible example in your support of Heston.

I think a word about celebrities in general needs to be mentioned here... I think fans tend to confuse the icons they see on the screen with their true characters and identities. I think this tendency is both flawed and potentially even hazardous. But whatever side you take, public figures will always have their supporters and detractors, and the legacy they leave behind will continue long after they're dead.

I actually don't recal saying anything bad about Heston or his politics... so I went back to look at my post, and imagine my surprise when I see that I DIDN'T say anything negitive.

And FYI: I did like Heston as an actor, I did not know him as a person.

It's funny how so many people think they know a celebrity as a person just from seeing them on screen.

Charlton Heston was an extremist... that "Cold Dead Hands" speech he made was one of the most absurd & drama-queen-ish things I had ever seen. The person I was watching it with and I both said at the same time that this guy BELIEVES he's Moses in The Ten Commandments.

================================================

People will say things about people, no matter who they are, no matter if they're alive or dead. No need to get "offended", especially if you didn't even know the person.
