Help! I moved to Boston about 8 months ago (for my husband's job), and at the time everyone--agents, random people, the news--was talking about how many film projects were about to come to Boston. Now, I worked on the untitled Kevin James film (maybe now I think it's called Paul Blart-Mall Cop or something like that) as an extra, but I didn't get any responses when I sent in my headshot for the Sandra Bullock film or the Bruce Willis film, Surrogates. Is there some trick to getting work in Boston? I lived in L.A. for a month several years ago and got an extra part in a movie and a speaking role in a Puma commercial within two weeks of being there!! There were extra companies you could call and if you were a person in this certain age range, you could sign yourself up as an extra for a project with no questions asked (of course, you had to have a picture on file with them, but that was all--they didn't have any other requirements). Why is it so hard here? Also, there are hardly any film casting notices on Backstage for Boston, and the same is true of all of the other casting company websites that I'm signed up with. I'm with C.P. Casting, Boston Casting, Grant Wilfley Casting, LPM Casting (or something like that-I haven't checked it recently because they never have anything), and Mandy.com, AND I have an modeling agent who never has anything for me--I don't know what else I can do!! I feel so stifled! Should I just give up on acting until I'm in New York or L.A.? That's what I feel like doing. I have too much stage fright to do theatre, and that seems to be all that they offer here. Is there something I'm missing about how to go about getting work here? I feel so out of the loop.

Also, for anyone who remembers my previous posts, I finally did get my comp cards from my agency after 5 months! They also gave me my CD with my five pics from the comp card on them, but all but one won't open, so I'm fighting tooth and nail to get them to send me a CD that actually works.

Wish me luck and please send any tips you have about getting work in this crazy town.

Odd...I see a lot of postings for work in and around Boston.

Have you been to Newenglandfilms.com? There are also a few other New England-centric sites. Do your homework and find the regional sites. I find a good 20-30 postings a week between a few sites alone.

You cannot wait for someone (an agent or a site) to necessarily find the gigs. It also takes a lot of self-motivation.

Thanks! I guess I didn't know where to look. I checked out newenglandfilms.com and it had tons of postings.

I appreciate the help. I think it's really nice when actors help other actors. This message board is awesome!

That's probably, because the CD was not "closed" and left "open" so other things can be added to it.

They need to create a data CD.

See if this software will work for you.

Or have them email you each photo individually.
