Here is my question. I am going to have some free time in a couple of months after I finish taking a licensing test for my other profession while I look for a job, however, in the interim I thought I might try to pick up some extra work.

I am already a member of SAG so that base is covered but I am wondering if it's worth joining AFTRA to open myself up to more work opportunities.

Also, how easy is it to get extra or under five work normally on a soap? I really have no idea because my only soap work was a few years ago when I was called in for three days of under five work based off what I believe was a contract audition I had done a couple of months before. Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat. I see a lot of AFTRA extra work right now(and not a lot of SAG) but I'm a must-join from bg and U/5 work I did last year. They currently have about $200 of my money they are holding. I don't want to work and not get paid-or pay $1300 or whatever it is and join. If I get a U/5, day player or more I will join, but not for extra work. If you have the money just laying around then do it, but otherwise don't just yet.
