I will be taking an acting class this summer at the Esper Studio and I'm wondering if there's any info on Deb Jackel. I'll appreciate any info. Actually, any other classes besides an acting class from the Esper Studio you would recommend?
I'd like to take a couple of classes but I'm not sure which ones to go with.
Thanks,
Blanca

Hi There...I don't have any info on Deb Jackle but I was wondering what you did you get in? I was thinking of taking classes there this summer as well but I am not sure if it is too late? Also how much is it for the summer? THANKS and good luck

A couple of summers ago I took the acting intensive summer program at William Esper and Deb Jackal was my teacher. She always liked to brag about how she used to be an agent and how she made so much money. She would also scream and curse at us, and even made a girl in the class cry and then yelled at her for crying. I think she had some personal issues. She was not your ideal nurturing or supportive teacher. Although I'm sure she liked to think of herself as a "tough love" teacher, she was more of a tyrant.

I took the summer intensive with Deb Jackel two years ago.
I had a lot of difficulty with the class. My poor acting partners must have felt like they were working with a brick wall...
Deb got something to start in me, though, and I was invited back for the 2 year program.
Deb's guidance helped me more than I could ever express. She doesn't seem to me, the way emmagram described her.
She's very passionate about what she does, and it shows.
She isn't going to hold your hand and cuddle you along the way. She focuses on what you need to do to be a better actor. Some people might think that's harsh... I would call it teaching.
And when she tells you that you did something well, you know that you did and she isn't just telling you what you want to hear to feel good about yourelf.

I agree with you. I don't want to be baby either. And yes, I've had teachers that have been very disciplined and that can be taken as harsh.
Who else did you study with? Did you accepted the 2 year program invitation?
I haven't started my class yet, but I already have in mind being able to do the 2 year program. I love what I've read about that school and hopefully I'll get to study with Esper himself. I read his book and it gave a clear vision of what studying with him can be, and I love it. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks for your input.

Hello, Unfortunately, I don't have any information on Deb Jackel, but I will be studying with her at the William Esper Studio this summer. I have met people who know her and they say that she is a great teacher. Are you still taking her class?

I'm a graduate of Bill Esper's. Just because someone is harsh doesn't mean they are a great teacher. One of the many characteristics that makes both Bill and Suzanne such brilliant teachers, is the fact that they are both incredibly nurturing. I would try to study with Bill or Suzanne. Some teachers are harsh and opinionated, and it might seem like "no pain, no gain", but it's like depriving a flower of water in the hopes of toughening it up. Instead, the flower will just die. The work you will do at this school is the opposite of toughening you up. The work is about opening you up, sensitizing you, creating a safe environment for you to really grow. And once that flower is strong, that flower can weather the harshness out there. Bill's students go on to have amazing careers. And he is not at all harsh. He's as warm and nurturing as anybody could possibly be. Study with Deb for her audition class, because once you've finished the two year program, it's time to learn how to "toughen up"...but harshness is not at all conducive to the Meisner technique.
