Usually I can spot a sketchy posting right off the bat, but I have a situation I haven't faced before.
I came across a posting that called for actors for a short film to be shot in the area. When I emailed the contact, I asked for more info. He sent back a two-lined synompsis. I replied with specific questions about audition, possible production schedule, etc. He emailed back that they are doing a spec film and will shop it around.
Two emails later, I finally received a reply about auditions: "yeah when are you available? What time what place and where do you want to do this?".
I want to give the person the benefit of the doubt, but this sounds a bit sketchy. Is there a better way to find out if he is having "real" auditions - as in more than just meeting up somewhere. If I can't get something more grounded/legit sounding, how can I bow out without coming across as a -itch?
Thanks in advance.

There's really no way to know for sure short of hiring a PI. Just don't meet him alone, and if you have any doubts, a short, "this doesn't seem like the right project for me" note is fine.
