I am moving to LA in September and am wondering if it is accurate to assume that I can get extra work for 3-4 days a week. I realize that it's different based on age/look ect. but I will be in school 2 days a week and want to do extra work as my main job until I can earn my vouchers, and then work elsewhere. Also how long does it take to get paid for the extra work/ how you get paid. Do I need a large wardrobe to do extra work?
Sorry lots of questions, Thanks in advance to anyone who has any comments

Tough to say what the industry will be like then, what with the fallout from strikes, defacto strikes, and whatever else. But it should be no problem getting 3-4 days a week of non-union extra work. But that's if all your days are free-it depends on when your classes are. If you do film or TV extra work you should get paid within a couple weeks; with commercials it sometimes takes a month or more. You may need to include "audience work," in which you get paid cash at wrap. Problem is, it doesn't pay more than minimum wage, so you probably won't be able to live on it. Not to mention that it is very taxing on your dignity and ego.

I would think the time to do extra work as your main job would be after you join SAG, not before, just trying to get vouchers(a daunting proposition). The pay is SO much higher, you actually don't mind the demeaning work as much, knowing how much you are being paid. Especially on commercials. Of course, it is much more difficult to get SAG work because of the capped numbers-and SAG commercial extra work is rigged to give preference to the friends of the casting companies.
