Anyone who knows anything about this valley? It's pros/cons? Information about it, that only a person who live or visit there would know.

Anything at all, thanks

Well, I live there, as do I'm sure a number of other people here. It's large however, and Burbank is as different from Toluca Lake, which is right near it, as it is from Encino, which isn't.

I live in North Hollywood, which has areas that are far safer than you would think from all the TV images of police helicopters flying over the latest incident.

A number of the studios are here (WB, Disney, NBC, CBS), lots of others aren't. Some auditions are, some aren't. There's various things to do, some in safer dives than others.

Hard to sum up really. But it's a pretty standard place for a lot of creative people to live. And when my apartment manager got murdered recently it wasn't on this side of "the hill" but in Hollywood itself.

Depends on what you're looking for. But you might go to Google maps and look at a few street views in a few neighborhoods.

Thank you Jim for that explanation, I am sorry for your manager as well.

I am just looking for a location to assess most of the auditioning places. Anything will do fine for me, slums, anything.

I think anywhere in the SFV would be a perfect location to assess most of the auditioning places.

Many areas of the SFV don't speak English either.

I speak Spanish, and I know Hispanic is a major population over there, shouldn't be a big deal for me if that was the language you were referring to.

Thanks Smiler

In terms of auditions, the standard answer to newbies is there is no place that's central to ALL auditions. Some are in Santa Monica, some are in Manhattan Beach, some in Burbank, etc.

In terms of where you live, bear in mind that a number of famous actors were raped, two while they were still struggling. One said she learned from that experience to never live in bad neighborhoods (among other things).

I hope if you come here you start by rooming with older people - hopefully a smart woman or two - who can steer you right. You're just the kind of willful, self-assured woman who can be smoothly manipulated by the worst of some of our local players.

Don't think you can handle anything. You can't. Learn to get allies and mentors early on, and you'll end up the stronger for it.

I never want to live life through fear, but I read something that having "fear" will keep you safe because you will be afraid to take a shortcut, walk at night, do things you wouldn't do.

Yeah that be good thing to do is room with that type of crowd.

I used to walk home about 3/4 of a mile from my boyfriends house in the middle of the night through downtown Phili. This was the early 90's--for those of you who know Phili.
Yeah. That was really, really dumb of me. The walking home part--and the boyfriend part too!

The San Fernando Valley is said to be the capital of porn. Paul Thomas Andersen based "Boogie Nights" partially on his experience growing up here, and said they actually used to shoot porn in the house across from his.

There's a porn "star" (they're all "stars") who hangs out at one of my local cafes. After Vivid opened some very fancy offices on Ventura Boulevard, we used to get quite a group of them (small busty blondes mainly) in another place but apparently something led to their not coming anymore.

I went to an art opening years back in a really lost, industrial corner of the Valley and there were naked little women, primped and powdered in the most peculiar places, dancing around some of the sculptures. It turned out to be a porn shoot place, and the artist was friends with the owners, so they let her use the space.

A group of actors I used to know got some of their rent money by letting porns be shot in their living room.

So, yeah, it's around.
