I am just getting started in the world of Extra casting. I just filled out a profile at exploretalent.com a few days ago and they called me tonight asking for $30 a month and a guarantee of 40 auditions per month. When I told them I wanted to do some research, they told me that once I disconnected the call my profile would be inactive and I wouldn't be able to set up a new one. Hmm...
Does anyone know about this group?
Is there any such thing as part-time extra work? I know this is hard work and takes a lot of time and effort so I mean no disrespect.

Hmm...I tried to do a search for exploretalent.com, because I could swear that there was a thread on it, but nothing came up.

In any event, any time someone tries to give you a hard sell like that it's a huge red flag. I'm glad you did not sign-up.

Check out other threads on this board for legitimate agencies for Extra work.

Yes, the only kind of extra work is part-time. Think of extra work as an occasional temp job.

I don't know this particular group, but it sounds like a TOTAL scam to me. Pretty much anytime they don't want you to do research it's a scam.

And you said it was "Extra Casting"? You don't need to be auditioning to be an extra.

Exploretalent is a waste of money. They post mostly no-pay jobs you can easily find elsewhere. And they leave your profile on forever, whether you want them to or not. In fact, cancelling the subscription isn't easy.

Try actorsaccess.com. You pay by the submission and it is legitimate.

you can just google "explore talent" and you'll find a wealth of info. Also try easybackgroundcheck.com. There is also a thread here on background casting companies. Be aware that it only pays, and this is if you're lucky, $75 a day. And a day can be more than 10 hours.

Stay FAR AWAY from them. They are a scam. I had registered with their website under the cheapest account (where you don;t pay, but you get the least benefits) and they would always call and say "we'd like you to upgrade your account" and "we see that you're interested in modeling and acting would you like to set up a meeting?" I never went because I felt that during that meeting the most prominent I was going to hear would be "Ok this is the fee....etc." I learned to just walk away after I had rejected One Source Talent, which also wanted a huge fee. I want to do it SO BADLY, but I just knew it was crazy.
Later on a friend (whose young daughter is getting into the business) emailed me this website to check for anything related to entertainment industry scams. It's great - i always use it. And here is ExploreTalent's specific page.

Hope I could help!!

I have heard BAD things about Explore Talent. (More appropriately, Explore "Talent.") If you are non-union and looking to get lots of extra work, try http://www.extramilenyc.com and follow the instructions on the website about how to submit by mail and become a client there. I worked with them before I joined SAG, and they got me PAID WORK EVERY SINGLE WEEK THAT I WAS A CLIENT!!! WITHOUT EXCEPTION!!!

It's all tricks of lighting and shadows...

The three top ones without question are Backstage, Actor's Access, La Casting. You should be with all three. I have had auditions from all of them. (And apparently Now Casting is also good though I am not with them)

I remember when I was going to sign up with them about 2 or 3 years ago. I wanted to also find out more info about it, and the guy told me the same thing, that if I hung up, that was it. He was a real anus hole about the whole situation as well, and in a way, trying to make me feel guilty. Smh, they are a mess.

"Losing your heart's desire is tragic, but gaining your heart's desire. . .it's all you can hope for. This year, I wished for love. . .to immerse myself in someone else and wake a heart long afraid to feel. My wish was granted. And if having that is tragic, then give me tragedy. Because I wouldn't give it back for the world." - P. Sawyer

I have been using explore talent for quite sometime now...yes, I am new on here, but I'm not new on Explore Talent. I have gotten plenty of audition notices. I have also gotten work from the site. Legitimate, paying work. If you take a look at the company's BBB report you will find that the company is rated an "F" because the industry itself is known to have fraud. That automatically gives them an F rating even if their company is not participaing in scamming. You will also want to take a look at the posted complaints that they have on the BBB site. They ALL were resolved (and it shows that all of their complaints have been resolved). The complaints noted were for people that signed up for the service and then had buyer's remorse. I have worked in sales and, the tactics that are used by Explore Talent to get their customers are standard issue. It seems that some of them were even issued refunds and STILL levied a complaint about the company. There was one person that wanted a refund of 6 months worth of fees (60 days is the norm). Explore Talent issued the 60 days worth of refund but the consumer was still not satisfied. One other person was obviously having financial problems and tried to cancel his membership after it was to be deducted from his account. He needed the money for a car payment instead and wanted to head Explore Talent off so he wouldn't incur an overdraft fee. I also read the responses that Explore Talent had to the background check website that was mentioned. They gave very legitimate responses to the accusations. Did you read them? Obviously, people are only reading the headlines of these reports and not actually reading what occurred.

Here's another little trick to spot SHILLs for the scammers: so often on a thread where one of these companies gets called out, suddenly you get someone who's never posted before, has no history on the board, and then... signs up just to say how wonderful the company is.

Strange, huh?

With that, here's a thread on another board about Explore Talent
