Okay, so there may be an obvious answer to this question, but I'd like to hear from you guys anyway.

When mailing your headshot and resume to a specific agency, do you send separate packages to each department?

In other words, would I send one package to the legit department, one to the commercial department, etc., in order to address each agent individually?

Thanks in advance.

i would send to each dept separately, but you dont necessarily have to send to all the agents within each category. (this can vary per office though)

Right, that's what I was talking about. Sending a separate package to each department.

Thanks!

You should send a submission to ONE agent per agency at a time. Specify which agent you are sending it to. Don't blanket the office with your shots. I know this sounds like a pain, but you need to research the agency, its agents, and submit to one person per office at a time--its your best chance to elicit interest...

Thanks for the advice, Jackie.

Considering what you said, would you say that if you can spark interest in one department at an agency, and end up working with them, that you would then have a good chance of getting picked up in the other departments?

I was just thinking about the fact that each department of an agency is so different, and I've heard/read that in a lot of cases, agents from separate departments really don't keep in very close contact with each other.

That was my experience, actually. Beginning with theatrical and then mentioning I was interested in commercials and being told, Oh, go see Norma!
But I am guessing this might not be the norm. Tony Martinez has a whole section on this stuff in his book "An Agent Tells All" which helped me understand the process better...
