Hi everyone. I'm new to the acting scene. Just starting out, doing student films to gain experience and get my resume going. (I'm 3 for 6 on auditions, all very different roles, but anyway) I was contacted by Dedicated INC. (Jerry Pace Agency) today about a meeting. Now I've been researching and have found that they are a little 'iffy'. That they tell you what photogs to go to and what teachers to go to. And I know if an agency does that...it's a red flag and I shouldn't sign.
However, all the things i saw were a little old, nothing really new...but I was just wondering if anyone had any news or stories about this agency you could let me know about.
thanks!

i havent heard of this agency, but here's my advice.. if you want to check an agent's status, look on IMDB pro to see their clients, and also check and see if they're listed in Ross Reports.
i would also totally agree that an agent shouldnt really tell you what teachers to see or photographers to work with. suggestions are nice, but being told who to pay for these services is not. thats a definite red flag in my book.
since you're new to the game, take a long hard look at whether or not you're ready for an agent. don't just sign with someone shady because you think its what you "have" to do. you can be very successful in building your resume and working on your craft as an unrepresented actor, and to be honest, you'll definitely need much more than a few student films to get in the door. take some classes and really develop your skills. it'll pay off.
best of luck!

You can also check the better business bureau for reports on them I have a teacher she has some people she works with so she may recommend them but there are tons of people out there you have to go with who you feel is best and do major research on them like the other girl said.

haha yes i know more than just a few student films are needed, but i was encouraged by my good start.
i did my research, and found that jerry pace was part of the zanuck, passon, pace....and that they pretty much feast on new comers who they feel they can get. they take on anyone and everyone.
and im very much a "gut feeling" guy, and if i'm not 100% comfortable with it, i'm not doing it...so i declined to take the meeting.
i know i'll get more chances, and i'll wait til an agency comes along that i'm 100% comfortable. thanks for all the replies!!!

Good idea to decline the meeting. Search the board and you'll find a lot of not so nice info on Jerry Pace. I don't believe that he's well respected in the industry. It's probably better not to have an agent than go with one who has an iffy reputation.
