I'm going to give some controversial advice here, and I may get slammed. Hold off on reinstating. With all the craziness of the current negotiations, there is at least one scenario in which you may not need your AFTRA membership after all. I'd wait and see. At the very least, I'd wait until you book AFTRA work. Meanwhile, save up for that steep reinstatement fee. Wow...Not so lenient, the leniency commitee.

I encountered financial hardship & wasnt able to pay my dues for a while (neither AFTRA or SAG). Last month I pd SAG & called AFTRA to pay them this month only to find out they suspended my membership 9 months ago. The kicker is I never recieved a notification letter from them. I wrote the Leniency Committee to explain that I moved & they denied reinstatement unless I pay the initiation fee of 1,300.00. What I owe is alot less than that, any tips, advice???
I also encountered financial hardship and my aftra membership was suspended. To be honest I am not sure I want to be a member of aftra anymore. It got me into sag and that's were it's usefulness ends. I definitely won't pay $1300.
