Right now, today, has the recession affected the industry in LA? Or is there still alot of work happening? Has the industry hit a boom as of yet? Or are there still lots of actors struggling due to the recessions affects? Also due to the recession, has there been more of a demand to use non-union foreign actors over union actors that are US residents/citizens?

Well, firstly, actors have always struggled, and there is never a "boom."

Beyond that, yes, L.A. was hard-hit recently, not only by the economy, but also by a Writers Guild strike, followed soon after by the threat of strikes by SAG and AFTRA, creating a devastating triple whammy.

We seem to be slowly emerging from the rubble, with this season a bit better than last season.

As for your last question, union projects are prohibited from using non-union talent, and the economy has not changed those rules. However, there may be more non-union projects than before.

A lot of people I know were set to act in projects that got pushed back due to their funding getting pulled. Things are slowly getting better, but we are getting hit pretty hard...
