I replied to a posting on Craigslist and I received an email requesting my full name, address, phone, SAG #, etc., with an explanation about their process. Anywhere experience such a thing before?

An exerpt:

Thank you for your response, and in regards to the audition details you requested first you must answer All the questions in order to receive the script and the pertinent audition information. ...

This is a major audition and we will reward everyone who gets involved. ... You must reply to this email promptly or we will figure you did not receive the information you requested and will resubmit another email out to you.....We will reply either way to let you know if you qualify or not for the casting roles. If you do not hear back from this email then we did not receive your information.Full casting call with strong stage qualities for leading and supporting roles, while little experience is needed for the extras with speaking roles....

Sorry things have to be done in this orderly fashion but there is an investigation going on due to talent agency's who have been hijacking Electronic Data Transferring which makes it a bit annoying and a few more steps for you but if you get the part it will be well worth the little things you have to work around.

None of this information is needed for a legitimate audition. i would never give out my address to a total stranger. Do you have the name of the company? Can you check up on them? Even the language in this message is weird. What is a "casting role"? It is most definitely a scam.

First thing I would do is check to see if they are SAG signatory.

If they are I would supply the info.

I have had productions pick me up at home.

just know that 99% of everything on Craigslist is a scam.

I'd rather die than live 1 day knowing that I gave up.

I sent back a reply with just my state, my sag status (NON), and a few questions about the company name, project, etc.

They emailed me back with:

Sorry the the qualifications were not met but thank you for your interest.

If they were scammers, at least they were polite!

Thanks for the replies.

They absolutely did not need your social or any of that other stuff at that phase in the process. Just your name and headshot/resume and a contact # (not your home #). If had given them your address I would have had to have tracked you down to shake some sense into you!!!

You should report this to craigslist. From what they said when interviewed on the View, they do accept and appreciate receiving reports about any bogus/scam listings.

To Matthew Schuck: Actually there is a fair amount of legit work on craigslist. I would say maybe 50-60% is a scam, not 99%.

To glamourpuss: Never ever ever give your address to anyone you have not met with personally. It is never required for you to sign up for a legit audition.

No agent involved. Rita and I were BOTH booked from cold mailing. At that time it was B/W xeroxed photo/resume folded into a #10 envelope.

Rita is still getting residuals from it.

Couple of weeks ago auditioned for a SAG national comemrcial from cold mailing 6x4 full color postcard

I wonder if this depends on the area in question? In LA it seems to be more than 60% scam. But perhaps in smaller markets without such intense casting infrastructure there is more legit usage of craigslist....
