OKAY, A CASTING DIRECTOR CALLS YOU AND ASK IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS NEXT WEEK FOR SOMETHING AND THROWS IN THE CLIENT LOVES WORKING WITH YOU-YOU SAY YES. THAT NEXT WEEK COMES UP AND THOSE DAYS ARE NEAR. YOU GET A CALL FROM SOMEONE ELSE TO WORK . YOU CALL THE FIRST PERSON AND THEY STILL DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER. YOU TELL THEM YOU WANT TO ACCEPT OTHER WORK. THEY GET ANNOYED AND SAY...WELL YOU SAID YOU WERE AVAILABLE... (UNION RULES STATE IF YOU ARE NOT GIVEN CALL TIME AND LOCATION YOU ARE NOT OFFICIALLY BOOKED). SO YOU SAID, YES AT THE TIME YOU WERE AVAILABLE, BUT SINCE YOU HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM ANOTHER JOB IS ON THE TABLE. SINCE YOU DON'T GET A REAL ANSWER YOU TAKE TO SECOND JOB OFFERED. THE FIRST BALLS YOU OUT WHEN YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE NOW. YOU APOLOGIZE, SEND LETTERS EVEN MAKE A CALL EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND APOLOGIZE. THEY DON'T RETURN YOUR CALLS OR RESPOND TO YOUR LETTER. WHY IS IT THAT THEY CAN ALWAYS BALL YOU OUT ABOUT BEING UNPROFESSIONAL OR TO BE PROFESSIONAL BUT YOU CAN'T WITH DECORUM CALL THE FACTS ABOUT THEM STRETCHING THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW A CLIENT REALLLLY WANTED YOU OR THE DIRECTOR HAND PICKED YOU. YOU KNOW FROM PAST EXP. THAT IT'S A PLOY TO GET YOU IN THERE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND "DEPENDABLE" ACTORS TO SHOW UP BECAUSE THOSE ACTORS WONT PUT UP WITH THE LIES AND THE LACK OF RESPECT ONCE ON THOSE SETS. SHOULD AN ACTOR JUST SHUT UP AND MOVE ON AND SPEAK THEIR MIND AND MOVE ON?

First, stop shouting.

Second, it's not that big a deal. Move on.

Caps are really hard on the eyes for others to read.

The answer to situations like this is to never allow anyone to put you in a position of lower status. Never apologize for taking an actual job offer over a theoretical job offer. And never let anyone yell at you. Here's how the conversation could have gone:

You: I've had another job offer which would conflict with the job we discussed.
Him: I thought you said you were available.
You: I was at the time, but this is an actual offer. Since I haven't heard from you, I'm assuming that yours isn't an official offer yet. Am I mistaken?
Him: Well, no. I can't make a job offer until it's definite.
You: No worries. I understand. In that case, I'm going to accept this other job, but I appreciate the call.
Him: This is unprofessional.
You: I'm certainly sorry you feel that way.
Him: You can't say you're available, then bail on me.
You: Let me just make sure I understand. You're upset because you'd like me to turn down work for a job that's only a possibility at this point? I don't see how I can do that, financially.
[ranting]
You: Do you realize you're yelling?
[ranting]
I really don't let people talk to me this way, so I'll need to end this call. But I'd love to hear from you again when you're calmer and you have a job offer for me. Thanks so much.

...and go on with your day.

I have been in situations like this over the years, and I have learned to make it clear when I say that I'm free that I'm free AS OF NOW.

Even if this isn't said, you still have to take the job over the possible job, but it makes me feel better about the whole situation. Michael Kostroff is totally right.

And SHOUTING isn't nice.

Welcome again Michael !! I agree and like your post. lol ! These's CD's feel that they can deal and speak to you any which way they chose. But they need us just as much as we need them. But I agree with you Steve just move on from them. Some are so absent minded that they'll call you again. So I would even trip about them.
