A lot of you guys know this much better than I do. I've done a couple of films and my work speaks for itself. Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Hello AW

I would suggest getting your hands on a list of agents in your city (ross reports, etc.), finding those agents that handle your type/medium, and submitting your picture/resume' with a brief cover letter. If you have a reel, have it ready to send, if it is requested.

Maybe a follow-up phone call in a couple of weeks . . . . or not.

Good Luck

Jim

This topic can and has been addressed at length on these boards and elsewhere so I suggest you do some snooping around and see what you can dig up. Then I suggest you read a few books on the matter like "An Agent Tells All" by Tony Martinez and "How to Agent Your Agent" by Nancy Rainford.
Finally, I'd like to point out that for a lot of people landing an agent seems like step one when it should really be step 10. Make sure you are training as an actor and learning about the business and auditioning for all the stuff you can get on your own and then begin searching for an agent. Often, it can be easier to land a commercial agent first--many people begin there and then add theatrical representation (meaning a rep for all non-commercial work) after.

I'd agree with Jackie. Be ready.

Also - ask folks you know in biz with agents, if they would put word in for you to their agent. I've gotten in door and recieved 2 agents this way.
I've also heard good things about places like Actors Connection, Breakthru studios, etc..pay a fee to be seen essentially.

that Jackie is a smart woman..

Getting an agent is not an easy task, and just for moving to NYC or LA, you are not entitled to "getting" an agent.. it's very very difficult. Before you consider mailings and whatnot, BUILD UP YOUR RESUME. They won't even give you the time of day unless you have decent credits. Pretty people who think they can act are a dime a dozen in this city, and agents are very busy people. i know this first hand, because i interned for a very big agency in the city, and a lot of what i did, was throwing away mailed in headshots. its tough!

but that said, there are so many things you can do without an agent. there are lots of resources out there that can help you build your resume and get noticed.

There's still lots of bad advice floating around! Sometimes probably from me. Shhh!

I wish I was the business guru the acting world needs. I wish the acting world didn't need one, actually. Why can't it be all art and craft!???!

first off - maybe try doing a search since this is the third time you have asked and this has been discussed a hundred time on these boards?

then try reading this

http://theshowbizblog.com/?p=24

http://theshowbizblog.com/?p=26

you can read part 2 as well - but parts 1 and 3 really hit the nail on the head
