Would you be friends w/your agent (on Facebook) if they had a Facebook page?
I noticed that my agent has one.

Why not?

People need to quit being so afraid of their agents... they work for YOU. They are representing YOU. They should be just as much on the hook as you are.

One thing to consider: If you are friends with your agent he or she will be able to view your whole profile. Do you have or want a business-ready facebook? In other words, do you present yourself in a professional way on your facebook or are their photos of you scantily dressed or chugging patron!? Wink
You might need to second guess your postings, such as status reports, if your agent might see them....

Actually skeeterkitty, you can customize your Facebook settings to only allow certain people to see certain things.

For instance, you can make "lists" of friend types. I have one called "Family", and anyone placed in that list can't see any of my "tagged photos". You never know what your friends might tag you in, so now I don't have to worry about my family seeing anything they might find questionable (not that I do anything questionable Smiler), but you get what I mean. Plus it's just a privacy thing.

If you make one called "Agents", you can then customize your profile so that anyone you place under the "Agents" folder can only see certain pictures (i.e. Your Headshots), only certain status updates, etc.

So if you don't mind setting up your preferences and privacy settings to only allow your agent access to certain things, you should be fine with friending them without worrying about that occasional unprofessional picture or comment slipping thru.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you need specific instructions on how to do it.

My picture isn't even my picture, I'm borrowing someone's pet. Now I can't say anything about what my other friends put up.

My whole reason for getting on FB was professional networking, and everything I put on there is weighed in accordingly. FB is a great way to put your name out there. You are bound to connect with people who you wouldn't otherwise get a chance to. Sure, I've friended lots of friends and family, and I have fun with it, but if I want to get personal, I can call you on the phone if we're that tight.

I am naturally very private, so I really haven't had much cause for concern. If you know that discretion is not your strong suit, perhaps internet networking is not the best choice...

Personally, I say sure. But I don't have anything unprofessional on my facebook. In fact, All I have on my facebook is my headshot and name.

I quite detest all these social network gimmicks/fads.

One of the reasons why is so that my day job(s) can't find me. Since my stage name is not my legal name and I don't use my real name for FB. It's on private anyway, only the people who become my friends see my info.

Actorpat is totally right about customizing who sees what. I was just recalling a conversation with some employers who were talking about NOT hiring certain people because of their facebooks (photos with booze, etc) so that was in my head...

REGARDLESS of how well you customize your FB or ANY other page, don't be an idiot!!! It is the FREAKING internet!!! It is NOT private!!!

I was watching that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders show, and this girl got busted during her interview with a picture of her boozing and showing her girls in a bar. Boy was she embarrased! They had pulled the pic right off the internet, and she couldn't do anything but sit there and wonder how they got a hold of it.

I sometimes wonder how people get a hold of these things myself. Google just isn't that effective. But they do. Take care.

I don't put myself in those kinds of situations. I don't drink anyways.

Wasn't personal. Just a little tweaked by the idea of "private" pages. They don't call it the WORLD wide web for nothing.

It's definitely not a perfect system, but the privacy options are a decent layer of protection for anyone worried.

Ideally, like skeeter mentions, just don't get in those situations period.

I'm a fan of the "don't worry about how your Facebook makes you look - worry about how YOU make you look" idea. I don't mean to say don't have fun, but you can have all sorts of fun without doing things that may lead to photos/stories etc. about your questionable activities or judgment of your character. Do you really need to get piss-drunk and show off your goods, likely knowing cameras are about? I guess that's a call for you to make. Hell, if you have nice goods, I'm certainly not complaining. But make sure you don't mind what might happen with a bit of attention focused on your actions later.

I think the more important question is; "Why would you want to be friends with your agent of Facebook?"

We have phone and email. Do you want your agent to see you status updates? Are you interested n seeing hers' or his? What would you gain?

If you're hoping to gain a little more face time as your agent would see you in some capacity every time they logged on, I say that you need to start cultivating the relationship through other means.
