In LA actors can rent an apartment by the week/month for pilot season.

Is there anything similar in New York City?
I need a place for 3-6 weeks...that is safe, clean etc.

Where do people stay who get theatrical runs?

Thanks for your help.
And wish me luck.

There are a lot of sublet listings on craigslist.

I am going to Europe for three weeks soon, and rented my apartment out an hour after posting it on craigslist. It was amazing!

Good luck.

Best,

Ron

You do realize that short-term subletting is probably illegal on the lease you signed.

If the landlord wants to get tough or your neighbors report you, you have no recourse.

Do landlords do a lot of cracking down on subletting these days?

You could try hostels: they are usually for college students who love to travel, but they could work for you too. Here's a website that gives the ratings and price ranges of hostels worldwide:

Here's another good resource:

subletListserve-owner@yahoogroups.com.

E-mail them and ask to be put on the e-mail list. There seem to be a lot of sublets.

Generally speaking, subletting is a safe risk. Actors do it all the time, and I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having difficulty, except in the case of condos, where the rules are more strictly enforced.
