I am currently living in San Diego, but I am thinking about moving to L.A. I am 34, and have very few credits. Earlier this Year I decided to give acting another try... so I woked with a great acting coach, got new photos done, did a showcase etc. That led to getting singed by a Full Service Agency in San Diego and a Solid Commercial Agent in L.A. I was psyched! I now have 2 agents, and I am auditioning in both San Diego and L.A for Commercials, Print, Industrials etc. I know I need credits, but it seems like all the Non Union Films projects etc are in L.A, so I almost think I need to move to L.A to get the experience I need to gain to move to L.A if that makes sense. I have a full time day job, but I work from home, allowing me the perfect flexibility to get out and audition. I could move to L.A, and just keep my same job. Thoughts? Oh and even though I am 34, I look about 28, workout everyday etc, so I'm not looking for any comments in regards to my age. THANKS!!

I mean, WOW. The fact you have a job that flexible probably means you work from home. My question is: What do you do? Sign me up!
Well, I honestly would have to say that you have to take the step yourself if you feel you are ready/willing. It is true it'd be easier to bounce around in LA and attend auditions. But if you can afford it, I'd say do it.
To be there, in the midst of it, would probably be the choice I'd make. Then again, I'm just a college student with little money all the time. :P
Best of luck!

Definitely move to LA! SD is nicer to live but you won't get anywhere in the industry from there. Move to somewhere nice like Marina Del Rey and hit the pavement running! You've got a great survival job situation that so many others would kill for. Also, moving to LA makes it easier to attend some good classes.

Yes, I think that a move to L.A may very well happen in 2010. I own a condo in SD, so I need to try to get it rented out. As far as my Job, I am in sales for a Software Company. We do a lot of DEMO's for our software, but almost all of them are done remotely via the web. As long as I have my phone/ laptop, I'm good to go. I haven't told my Boss about the acting stuff yet, but he would definitely question me if I decided to move up. I think it would be best to lie about it... if I told him I was pursuing acting, he would think I lack focus as to my profession. Of course, that is true! My interest in acting/ voiceover/ improve etc is at 110% and my interest in Software is at -5% LOL. However, they're paying me about 80K per Year so I can't complain!

...Trade? LOL!
Well, congradulations on such an opportunity if you have the chance, do it. Make it happen! You've got the stability to move forward and keep trying where many of us have a hard time staying afloat, would have to live with others, and many would go back where we came from. Just go out and live your dream!
Best of luck, mate. I'm happy for you if you make the leap!

I thought we were only allowed to have a single agent in each division / state. Meaning only one commercial agent in CA, not a full service agent in one city and an additional agent in another. Am I misunderstanding the rules?
Rock on with the s/w job! My experience has been if you can telecommute you can still audition. Just remember where your priorities lie - my last s/w gig ate all my time and I quickly lost sight of why I moved to CA in the first place. As long as you don't make the same mistake I did, you're good to go!
Break a leg!

No, you can have multiple Agents in the same state. I'm on contract with the Agent in San Diego, so they "own me" for anything I do in San Diego County. Anything I do in L.A (commercial/print) goes to my agent in L.A. Technically I could still have more! I could have an agent in Orange County and theatrical Agent in L.A as well. Many, many people have multiple agents in CA and work multiple markets. I think the jurisdiction is the "County" not the State.
