Hi all,
I have been going through my first bout of insomnia in my life. I can't fall asleep no matter how tired I am and when I do, it's a very light unrefreshing sleep.

Exercise does seem to help, but I've been so busy working I have not been able to walk like i usually do. I tried melatonin, but it actually did the opposite. It gave me heart palpitations and very vivid dreams. Everyone's chemistry is different so I suppose things like that effect people differently.

I resorted to Nyquil caplets and find I am having an issue of not being able to sleep without it.

Taking Nyquil caplets is not good and is very dangerous. Please stop taking those now.

You need to go to your doctor and talk to your doctor about your insomnia.

After 6:00 PM don't drink anything with caffine in it. Also, after 6:00 don't eat heavy. Eat lightly (salad, soup, fruit, vegetables, etc.)

Try to have a set time every night when you go to sleep and when you wake up.

You need to make time to walk again.

I do need to make time to walk, I will. I stopped the Nyquil several days ago and just tossed and turned, but I'm glad I did. I'm very much against drugs and it bothered me. I'm just glad it was for such a short time.

I've had sleep problems since I was a wee nipper. From insomnia to sleep apnea. The apnea was fixed through surgery and I've really had success with the insomnia by getting a medication called trazadone. It's non-habit forming and you can just go off it without ill effects. So if you need to take it long term you can but if you need it to just reset your rhythm as well it works great.
I no longer have to take it but it certainly helped when I needed it.
It's available by Rx only.

Ask her/him about it.

Sweet dreams.

Yeah, that's the one I mentioned above Gary. It works quite well but it takes a few days to build up.

Which ones are addictive emmy? It isn't the trazadone. That's one of the good things about it. It's not designed to be a sleep medication. It is a totally different kind of drug that has a side effect of creating sleep. I was on it for about a year and went off of it in a day without any side effects, anything. That is one reason the doctor gave it to me. It is non-addictive. The only way you would have trouble getting off of it is if you became psychologically addicted.

It's like Welbutrin, which is a anti-depressant, one of it's side effects is it helps you quite smoking so sometimes it is prescribed for smoking cessation.

Yes, that is an addictive sleep aide. But there are some out there that aren't.
