One thing to add to your daily routine...water, water and more water! Stop drinking sodas if you do, replace them with water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I had a friend, who was in her early 20's and had pretty bad acne. She was getting married in 2 months and really worried about her skin and her wedding photos. I noticed that she was always drinking soda all the time and I never saw her drink any water. I told her to drop the sodas and drink tons of water. I also suggested using Noxema (or the generic version of it from Savon or Rite Aid) to wash her face each morning as well. Within 1 month her skin was great! Her wedding pics were something she would be proud of

I'm a pro model, but I've battled acne my entire career. Let me throw this out to you... I think the best idea is to just get yourself to the best dermatologist you can find for a thorough personal check-up. There are so many differences in skin types and new medications and treatments on the market that it's the safest and hopefully most effective thing to do.

I read that you shouldn't work out with make-up on.....that it will clog your pores. Also leeks are supposed to be good for skin. I'm SO SICK of bad skin and piling on makeup. YUck~ An acupuncturist gave me this list once to clear up skin. But these can get expensive to find something of quality or organic, I almost don't trust cheap drug store vitamins, not sure if they would really work. 1,000 mg per day - Borage Oil 1 tbsp per day - Flaxseed oil 150 mg 2 x / day - Milk Thistle 50,000 IU per day - Vitamin A (for first month then reduce to 25,000, or after healing is noticed) 1,000 mg 3 x / day - Vitamin C 30 mg per day - Zinc 2 mg per day - Copper

quote: Someone mentioned Retin-A; it works great. How bad is your acne? Acutane will absolutely wipe it out. I had bad acne in high school and Acutane saved my life. I dont know if they let women take though, because of pregnancy issues. You didn't mention your gender. But anyway, your dermatologist should be able to prescribe you SOMEthing. I've found that most over-the-counter stuff does nothing.
FYI- if you are going to try Retin-A ask your dermatologist for a Canadian prescription form- much cheaper to mail order it from there. (I have been told to use it to treat pre-cancer from sun damage & with my co-pay it is ~ $90 here & ~ $35 tube mail order)

I don't know if this is redundant with other posts but here it goes.....
I work with a nutritionist to help me keep my skin in order for working on film. Now that there's HDTV it's even more important to keep the skin looking good.
It doesn't mean break outs won't happen, but they help provide me with a clean living diet to prevent as much happening as possible. What I"m recommending is common sense but it can't hurt!
a) PH balance helps. Prepare pitchers of water for yourself that have sliced lemons, oranges and cucumber in it. The acidity and balance of the cucumber and lemon is great. Look up "PH Balance" and you'll notice on Google etc. that there are sites dedicated to showing you how to eat more balanced that way. That may help you.
b) De-tox your body. If colon cleansing (via hydrotherapy/colonics - quite popular in the industry) is a severe step for you - consider doing an herbal one from a health food store - such as candida killing (yeast killing) kits that help you clean your colon etc. and provide you with good bacteria. It's just a series of pills and a dropper with some potent herbs you drink.... A lot of naturopath's will put people with skin problems on this path as often your yeasty problems will come out through things like chronic acne etc.
c) Avoid the obvious - white sugar, caffiene, white flour, alcohol, anything with preservatives - if you want to give yourself a fighting chance - avoid all packaged food products - try and eat as organically as possible.
d) Antioxidants are GREAT for your skin. Raspberries/Blueberries, green tea (you can get a green tea extract you can put drops into your new water mixture). So is accidophilous which can come in pill form from your natural stores and needs to be refridgerated.
e) Anything inflammatory is bad for your skin - such as sugar, starches, alcohol. Green tea can counteract this.
f) If moisture is what you are lacking - try going to a spa for a facial, just once, although costly - it could really help you as they can do some things that can help you exfoliate the dry layers off your face and help you absorb more moisture through your products. Often the top epidermal layers of the skin are so 'dead' that they refuse to let in product to benefit you.
g) Accutane is severe and can have bad side effects. Severe dry lips, chapping, cracking and potential hair loss (that was my side effect of the drug in my early 20's and that is why I searched out alternate routes).
I hope some of this was helpful.

In my case it is not acne but eczema but they are both dry skin. When I started drinking green tea after I moved to L.A., my skin got better but then I started drinking more hazelnut coffee, my skin got more dry and itchy that I had to use prescription cream. I am also addicted to soda so that makes it worse. But yeah when I drank green tea and water, my skin was better.
Friends are like Shake 'n' Bake...the ones that stick to you stay with you...then you eat them.
