Sunblock is effective against certain damaging rays, but not others (there are several different tanning rays in the sunlight spectrum that lotions are simply unable to block). Have you ever noticed that when you're in heavy sun all day, you STILL manage to tan or burn?

Use the highest SPF available, and re-apply often.

Always wash your face before going to bed and get a good eye cream and night cream from your dermatologist. Don't forget about your neck. ALWAYS wear sunblock (SPF 45). And sunglasses. And Satin pillowcases. Essential. I have smoked and drank for years and am in my 30's and still get carded. It is all about the sunblock, sunglasses, and satin pillowcases. (I quit smoking).

Exfoliation is definitely key, followed by a good moisturizer. I've been using St. Ives facial scrubs and moisturizers forever.

Satin pillowcases are also great for your hair/skin. They're smooth, so they won't pull your hair or skin as you sleep on them.

SMW's tips of always washing your face before bed is important too - I NEVER sleep with makeup on.

Other than that, I drink tons of water every day. It's a good thing I never liked soda.

Basically, all of the tips given here are great pieces of advice.

Compared with INNER health, exterior fixes (plastic surgery, face creams, etc.) mean nothing.

Any attempts to forestall aging must begin from within, diet and exercise being chief among them. Any food source containing anti-oxidants, such as shan just mentioned, are highly recommended. The root cause of many aging ailments are due to toxic substances known as Free Radicals. Anti-oxidant rich foods help fight the damage done by them.

One of the major contributors to premature aging also tends to be stress, along with smoking, drinking, and drug abuse. And to reitterate-- sun tanning is probably the worst possible thing you can do to ruin your youthful good looks.

But relying on purely external methods to slow down the appearance of aging are a total waste of your time and hard-earned money.

I play anywhere from 8 years younger than myself to about half my age. (Not even kidding. I find it to be disturbing, but it is so.) Good genes are probably the main reason for this, but I do eat a LOT of fruits and veg, pretty much only whole grains, free range / organic lean proteins. I have something of a sweet tooth that I indulge more than I should, but at least it's oriented towards dark chocolate (antioxidants!).

I also really second the thing about doing yoga as well as other workout (except running; I read the other day that b.c it increases gravity running makes you age faster. This is probably also related to sun exposure.)

One other thing: when you get to Hollywood, NYC, wherever: don't cake on the makeup. A little blush and concealer go a long way. If you want to look late teens in your early twenties, save the eye makeup for nighttime events, never auditions for young parts.

Do something about that. Exercise helps people sleep. You need a certain amount of light during the day too so pull up your shades or something.

I went through practically my entire childhood being exhausted when I woke up for school. It was bad then and it pisses me off now because it MUST have permanently effected me somehow. Think about it - every day for like 15 years in your growing years and your body is never rested. Don't let that happen to you!

What works for me is

1. Sunscreen and not only high in SPF but PPD as well, the european sunscreens such as Bioderma, Avene (not Aveeno) and La Roche Posay are good.

2. Retinol cream at night, for OTC I like Avene or you can get something prescription like Retin A Micro.

3. Wear a vitamin C&E serum underneath your sunscreen, like Skinceuticals or Skinmedica. This amplifies your spf protection

4. get plenty of sleep.

Exfoliate.

It is my #1 secret. Take ot from a true diva. You gotta slough off the dead skin. Clinique makes an awesome one and I've been doing it every day for years. No one ever thinks I'm even ten years close to my real age (mid 30s). Check out my model portfolio and judge for yourself.

I'm kinda young but very depressed about aging. I'm Buddhist it's part of the life cycle I don't know what my problem is. I never really had a normal childhood or a teenage hood that's probably why my life is so backwards.

I will do anything to keep looking young.....my mother uses organic skin products that work really well, kiss my face and organic c serums etc. As far as aging goes, I really could be sick to my stomach that I am female I am really jealous of any one on screen who is a guy...Nicholas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, the list could go on and on.

What is like the best anti-aging skin creme you can buy, like what do the celebrities use? I'd be willing to spend an exorbitant amount of money on celebrity grade skin and eye creme, if anyone knows which to use.

I think this book is probably the best out there.
In a nutshell, I didn't read it yet but heard her on the radio,
she says, avoid chocolate, coffee, and sugar!

Rene: there's stuff like Retin-a (Retinol). A dermatologist could get you strong stuff but you could find some over-the-counter. I don't think you can do much about sagging or the fat in your face increasing or decreasing except for surgery or implants or injections, but Retin-A is a cream that removes wrinkles.

I don't know about anti-aging cream to prevent aging. Sunblock probably works, but I'm skeptical of the long term benefits of putting collagen and nutrients on your skin.
