Early March I signed up for Actors Access along with Nowcasting and Backstage. I get a lot of auditions from the last 2, but for some reason I've never received anything from AA, which makes me wonder if I'm using the website properly.

I often go on AA daily (sometimes twice a day) and submit myself as much as possible, but to no avail. Do casting directors contact you solely through C-Mail? Even so, I check C-Mail as well, and still nothing.

Does anyone have any similar experiences? What methods did you use to make the website more beneficial to you?

It's a numbers game--they can get 1000 hs/res in an hour. I also heard that members with videos go to the top of the list but I'm not sure. Just keep submitting.

Almost two years with Actors Access (18 submissions) and dd has only been contacted once to audition for a student film.

Age and type is important in order to compare. Location - NY.
Girl age 12 - plays younger. 8 months. 23 submissions. 5 auditions. 1 (student film) booked.

If you are not using the Actor's Access forums, there are a lot of helpful people there.

CSilvera: Makes sense, wish I knew about that earlier and held off on the yearly subscription until I had a demo reel.

actingfan: How did they contact you? Phone, email, or c-mail?

somuchtado: Based off of the responses I get from other websites, my type seems to be in good demand; I think the problem is the lack of a demo reel. Thank you for letting me know about the forums.

How crucial do you think it is to type something under Step 3: "Leave a note for casting"? I don't know if not typing anything there is affecting my AA submissions or not.

Received an email.

Am also curious about results when leaving a note for casting.

I've been Cmailed for six NY projects in 2008, twenty-one in the past year. Not even going to bother counting the number of submissions.

I've also been emailed or called. I always try to type a brief note. Sometimes they won't allow for a note.

Type is a huge factor.

I'd hope there are less castings for kids on the internet. That's probably a good thing for all, in regard to safety and for the sanity of those on the other side of the casting table.

I have submitted my daughter quite a bit on AA and she has had many auditions, and I always put something in the "notes" section. Even if it is simply "current work permit and Coogan". I have no idea if this has any impact on who they choose to audition. I just always put something there, I cannot imagine it hurts, but no clue if it helps.

Yeah, I guess from now on I'll leave a note just in case. A demo reel will have to be my top priority now: anyone like any paticular reel service? The one offered by AA seems a bit pricey: hopefully once I get my demo reel together I could upload it on youtube then put the link on my AA profile.

I could be wrong, but I think the demo reel has to be the one in your aa profile for you to get boosted to the top of the "inbox."

How timely. I just got a call from someone that I submitted to on AA. It's a small job, but good to know that it works. My big complaint about AA is that you CANT always submit a note. I have found that I get many more calls from NYCastings because I can personalize why my dd is right for the job.

i too do countless submissions. i've had a few bookings (both on camera and AEA theatre), and quite a few auditions (probably 2-4 a month).

i've been submitting for the last week since we found out we'll be back in the US for a month, no word yet. but i'll keep submitting to things i can do while home.

i also hope to get new headshots when i get back from tour, maybe that'll help.

it really is a numbers thing. but i would like to see what they see, you know?

Whoa, I just received my first AA response via C-mail today! I guess I have a lot to learn about patience. Smiler

I occasionally submit on AA, but I have had great success.

About 2 years ago, when I first moved to the city and signed up on AA, I submitted for a show with Theatreworks. I ended up getting called in for a different show, and was then put into the Theatreworks database and recently booked a tour and got my equity card from them.

Have also got called in for countless student films, some tv work and plenty of theatre gigs.

I like them as long as you are submitting for roles you really do fit the breakdown for.
