One more questions is about taking cold reading classes. I had a teacher at UCI who told me after taking Margies class he always got called back. Now it seems too good to be true, but is her class that beneficial? It costs around 650$ and its only like two sessions, how do you think that compares to taking a class with an acting coach say art wolfe?

she also has a book about cold reads which is far less expensive and easy to follow

Brad: I am looking into Margie's class too. Maybe you should go to her school's orientation on Monday, 11/12, and check it out for yourself. It's at 1:30pm at 971 N. La Cienega Blvd, Suite 207. (Call 310.854.0870 for more info.)

I really want to improve my callback rate for film/tv also! I just ordered the book on Amazon, so I'll read it first before checking out the class.

IF ANYONE ELSE HAS FEEDBACK ON MARGIE'S CLASS AND HOW IT HELPED THEM IMPROVE, please post here. Thanks!

Okay here's the real deal from a current student. None of us have much money to spend on classes, let alone $650. I'm telling you, this class is more worth it than you can imagine. My first job after taking it, I booked. Maybe coincendence, or probably not. It's fantastic. If you are not experienced enough, or you just do not want to go strait to MArgie's weekend intensive, them you acn take a different calss. Begining or intermediate. Although I've heard great things about all of the teachers, I took class with Annie Grindlay as well. Not only do I LOVE her and the way she teaches, I read in an industry book that she is one of the most highly regarded audition coaches to have on your resume.

I love sharing info, but this class is so great I almost don't want to tell people. Those who haven't taken it are sitting ducks to those that have. If you have the money...spend.

like was said by tristen, if you dont have a bunch of credits/experience, you wont get into Margies regular class. So you would have to take the weekend intensive she teaches. In my opinion you dont really get the specifics of what she puts forth until you are in the higher level class...until then it seems to be more just practicing breaking down scripts...(not the aspects on better cold reading and learning more lines at once) I hope what i said makes sense...and also i dont mean all this negatively, i think i took class there and enjoyed it.

Is this for theatrical or commercial? I've never paid more than 300 for a class. I think my cash is better spent on headshots, gas, and getting representation.

I think it's more important to get out there and auditioning before paying all that cash for a private class. My theater lab from East LA City College($96 for 15 weeks! what a deal!) got me roles in 4 plays IN A ROW right afterward. I taped myself during every class, reviewed the tape, and corrected my mistakes. Commercially, I've just finished a class with Mike Pointer here in LA, and I'm looking forward to the results. I paid $220 for it for 4 weeks ( a total of 16 hours of instruction).

I don't see a point in paying all that much for an acting class. Period. The proof is in the pudding. Acting coaches know 80% of their class won't go far acting, not for want of skill, but for lack of confidence, a good headshot, or ambition -- 3 things you can't get from an acting coach, they're internal, within the actor him or herself.

If you think you can buy confidence and experience in 2 sessions, in a single weekend, for $650, go right ahead. (FYI, she doesn't allow people to video tape the 'weekend intensive' to take home and study. For $650, that seems a bit ridiculous.) I just think people should get feet to the pavement, submit, audition as much as possible, and get representation. The class helps, but there are better options with more feedback available to you, especially in Los Angeles.

I totally hear what you're saying. It is an unbelievable sum of money. I took both the 4 week/twice a week course for 600 and the weekend intensive. But just like how we discussed the magnitude of the info of Mike Pointer's class (which is a GREAT price), this is one of those that when you can come up with the money, will transform the way you audition. My first audition after the class I booked. That could certainly be a coincidence of course but I hadn't booked in almost a year.

I don't think that this class is more important than using your money for pictures or any other part. It's just the best class of it's kind I've found so far.

Thanks, you guys both have good points. The one thing I am starting to learn about acting in LA is that if it sounds too good to be true, chances are it is. The only reason I even thought of taking Margies class is because of my teacher's recommendation. The thing is though, he had her as a teacher and now she has all these other people teaching under her. The other tricky thing is that everyone says wait until you get more experience, but how can you expect to get jobs if you don't have the audtion technique down? Its a catch-22 because even if you have good headshots, it doesn't matter if you dont know how to audition. I still want to take her class, but for now ill just wait and see if that price drops. haha By the looks of things, it just keeps going up. When my teach took the class it was like 400$ that was in NY about 2 yrs ago.

I know I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I wanted to add my two cents anyway.

I'm based out of NY and so couldn't take Margie's class even if I wanted to. So, I bought her book instead. Since learning at least the framework of her techinique I've been doing much better with cold readings. Is it the actual technique, or the fact that it just makes me feel more prepared and, therefore, more comfortable and at ease? I don't know. Either way, I found the book very beneficial in light of the impossiblity of taking her class.

I took one of her classes a while back and found her (M. Haber) very rude and arrogant and the staff was just plain obnoxious.
Avoid.
